    hunting rifle accuracy

I don't really put a lot of stock in bench groups and do most load development prone on a bipod. I'm looking for good velocities and low SD. I like around MOA prone off of a bipod (no rear bag) and practice alot offhand and sitting with a sling. I thought I'd need to shoot long in Alaska. The...

    2 Stage Triggers

I think most importantly, a trigger needs to be predictable. I prefer a two stage trigger but as long as I know the rifle is about to go off and I can execute a deliberate shot, I can be accurate. My competition rifles have two stage triggers and my hunting rifles have factory single stage...

    Do all rifle???

I'm much too lazy of a reloader for that. I'm also not trying to win a 200yard Benchrest competition.

    Do all rifle???

My grandmother shot a black bear in Maine with a 308 Model 100. Was deer hunting and sat down to have a smoke, heard something rustling along, saw the bear close, shot it and then had another smoke. My dad has the newspaper article somewhere reporting her as the first lady to kill a bear in the...

    243 powders

Maybe I missed it but one of my favorites is Ramshot Hunter. I load on a progressive and it meters very well. Multiple charge weights gave good accuracy but charges in the middle of Ramshot 7th Ed. gave me sub 1/4" groups at 100 yards and held the X Ring at 600 yards in F-Class when I read the...

.270 All Weather Rifle Choices (Stainless + Synthetic)?

Isn't that the truth. I've had spreadsheets comparing rifles and cartridges then walk into a gun store and one speaks to me.

    Oh my surely not

I've got enough primers I don't need to go finding a large bore airgun. Did some urban pest control with one as a kid. Even a match pellet at 550 or so will ruin a squirrel's day and make a red tailed hawk's.

    Oh my surely not

I leaned mine up against a tree before crafting a mud volcano and haven't seen it since.

.270 All Weather Rifle Choices (Stainless + Synthetic)?

Have the M70 EW in 270. I've liked it since feeling that bolt run for the first time. I decided that if it didn't shoot, I'd get a new barrel screwed on and try again. It shoots though so no issue there.

    Oh my surely not

To be honest, if you have a .224 and .277 you don't need a 6, 6.5, or 7mm unless it is for a specialized purpose. I have rifles in .223, 22 Hornet, .243Win, .270Win, .45-70, .375H&H and a 7mm-08 for the wife. I bought/built them all for a purpose. The .375H&H was more to get a Ruger No.1 in the...

    Oh my surely not

I don't care what anyone else shoots. In these times, getting people out to enjoy shooting sports is more important than what they shoot. If I didn't have a .270, I might have a 6.5 Creed but up here I can find .270 and not 6.5CM ammo/components.

    New savage action?

Only problem I have with newer Savages are the stocks. The accufit is pretty ugly though it may be functional. I have a .243 built on a Savage action with McGowen Barrel, B&C Medalist, and PST 6-24. It shoots exceptionally well as far as I have shot it which was a 600 yard F-Class match.

    Do all rifle???

It usually depends on the shooter. Most will weigh 12+ pounds. The rifles themselves would not good hunting rifles. They are designed to be shot prone with a sling unless they are shooting a Garand.

    Do all rifle???

You're right. I probably should have said this thread. Yes, it can do everything required by the OP but there are much better options. I've been on this site a while now off and on and the furthest thing I've ever killed is a Caribou at 125ish yards. I grew up hunting whitetails in the woods of...

    Do all rifle???

This is fair. I'm a 45-70 guy and if you're hunting big swaths of timber or swamps it has a place and is versatile but for the purposes of this forum it doesn't fit.
