Need more information for what you need the rifle to do. Are you looking for less recoil, or does that matter? A light carry gun, or a heavier bean field gun? What animals do you intend to target with the rifle? Do you reload, or is ammo availability in the store important to you?
I had never heard of this round before. Very similar indeed. Looks like Sig took the 270 Redding and added a stainless steel base to the brass to allow the higher pressures.
I'm not sure what the correct dimensions would be for the 270 Redding. That is the only drawing for it I have ever seen...
I think if I go this route, I would order the dies first, and a sample of brass from qual cart...unless I could find someone that would be willing to give up one round of formed brass. Then play with seating depth of the bullet to determine the most efficient COAL. I played with some numbers...
I am considering a 270 Redding for my next build. Does anyone have any experience with this round?
One of the things I would like to know is the best method for obtaining brass...and which brass would work best? I have been thinking about this build a long long time...and when I first started...
Yes, but is this as compared to a standard cartridge...20ish degree shoulder...or a 30 degree? Does a 40 degree perform better than a 30 degree in the catagories you described?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of a 30 vs 40 degree shoulder in a round, if all else is equal?
I've read there is a slight accuracy advantage in a 30 degree shoulder. Any truth to this?
I've also read somehing about less throat erosion and longer barrel life in a 30 degree...
Lots of good input from everyone. Thank you! Looks like I need to nail down what chamber I want first, and then go from there. I'll start another thread on that issue.
I saw the above on a different thread. I have an old Remington 700 ADL in 22-250 that is in need of a new barrel. I was looking strongly at a 260AI (and a few other options). Does anyone have some of the lessons you have learned with a rifle build that you are willing to pass on?
Worst year I have ever seem for ticks in Central VA. I took a short walk down one of my forest roads about a month ago (grass was tall) and quickly ended up with over 30 of all sizes crawling up my pants leg. It has been like that any time I go out in any tall grass in the shade.
Hello all from Virginia. I'm joining to try and learn something and hopefully make some contribution as well. Seems like a lot of knowledgeable folks here.
