7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

Wow, that good price didn't last long! I bought for a total cost of $232.01, today that scope is listed for $399.99.

I just got my Dvor email, and they have it for $350.00.

Glad I moved quick. Still waiting to shoot it, though.
It's an end run for the model so the price will fall again; they are likely just testing the water on how low they have to go before they sell. I bought a 6-20 grand slam from Midway over the winter for just over $300 so the 4-14 should be somewhat cheaper....

Now I have to buy a scope... looking at the one at Weaver Grand Slam Rifle Scope 4.5-14x 40mm Adjustable Objective
Well -- I went to the LGS and held my new baby today. Took the scope mentioned above and went ahead and mounted it. Still waiting on the FFL, though -- the BATF messed up the address or something and they're being kinda slow about fixing it. I should have the baby home next week sometime.

Baby came home today! Now I have to get her sighted in and all, but wouldn't you know it! I drive an 18-wheeler and have to leave for Fort Worth this afternoon. Guess we'll get better acquainted perhaps Sunday or Monday.

"WOOT!!!" should be in this post somewhere...

About time I got into this forum. I'm on my 2nd STW, first was a magnum action Savage that I got talked out of and now I have a Rem 700 action take from a 1962 700 in 264 mag. Had been left in a closet for many years so it was not very pretty but cleaned up okay and put a take off Rem barrel on it. Surprisingly it all matched up with little issue and with very little range time it seems to be pretty decent. Plan to spend a lot of time with it shortly as it will be my Barbary sheep rifle for this year. It wears a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 with a mil dot in it. Hope it shoots as well as the Savage did and believe it will after only one range trip.

Figure I'll use some Hornady 154 IB bullets that I picked up a while back and am using Retumbo in it right now with a Fed 215.

The cheapest way to good brass lately is to neck h@h brass down. I usually do 375 h@h but you can do 300h@h, 8rem, 300roy, etc.. query brass forming or ask as this isn't that hard and you'll get good brass.

I finally pulled the trigger on a STW build today, I always said I'd have one when remington first published about making them commercially in guns and ammo or shooting times magazine back in the 90s.

I changed my mind from a 7mm-300win mag, when I saw 8mm mag brass for sale in the classifieds last night and knew exactly what I was gonna do with them.

It will be built off a savage 110 action, CDI bottom metal, timney trigger, manners MCS-T2 stock, Shilen match stainless 8twist heavy Palma contour, warne bases, and TPS rings.

I'm going to run 180 Bergers or SMKs or 175 nosler LRAB, anybody got any suggestions on where to start with powders I've got RL22, H1000, H869, and can get my hands on RL25&33. All help greatly appreciated.

My new STW gets I my FFL Monday. Gotta buy a base and just got some weaver rings. Should fit nice I hope. That makes 3 and I have barely been able I shoot. In fact not once since last year!!!! Man I need to go shoot some holes.

I used to shoot H1000, RL22, and RL19....Until I realized how unstable they were in temp swings...Yes, even H1000. I was shocked, too.

Now I shoot IMR 7828 SSC in all my rifles, and get exceptional velocity and temp stability. Except my 7mm-08 and .308 Win...They get Varget, because of their small case capacity.

I have plenty of 7828 ssc I can try my 7 rm loves and I do mean LOVES retumbo my 300 rum loves Ramshot magnum my 6.5x284 loves 4831sc so why not see if this gun likes/loves 7828 as it don't get used in anything yet thanks for the suggestions on that any primer suggestions to try 215 m or wlrm I know it trial and error

I am curious, how do the bergers compare to jlk or cauterucio as at this time I only order bullets from swampy at jlk or Bob @ cauterucio

I use Federal 215M's.

With mine, I just did a quick ladder test in .5 grain incriments and walked up to 71.0 and it was putting 5 Berger 180 Hybrids inside a dime @ 100 yards. I'm still not done working up, as 71.0 showed no pressure signs in my rifle.

Each rifle is individual, and yours might top out with pressure signs before then, so keep a close eye on the primers flattening out.

Also, the STW doesn't like the bullets pressed up into the lands...It can't handle that kind of a pressure spike and will blow the sides of the brass out.

I found out the hard way...
