The ONLY TIME the 'theory' of the Ballistics Calculator would be remotely true is if there were obstructions of terrain at the first half of the distance fired whereby conditions at the last half were clear such as firing across an open valley! The more the bullet is moved off course during the first half of it's flight will be more under normal range conditions without any obstructions! And every long range champion that has ever won a national championship at Camp Perry would tell you the same thing I'm preaching to you!!
I have seen those guns they shoot at places like Camp Perry and some of those guns have the peep sights really high. I guess that's HORSESCHITT too. Matt
 
300 0tm at 3450 fps? Wow!! I only get 2850 fps with 338 lapua . What brass is the 338 allen mag, built off of? I was going to go 338 lapua imp, but the allen mag sounds better. Can you give us some info on it, like bolt face size , and what brass its formed from, barrel life and so on!!!

Try some Reloader 33. In my 338 Lapua IMP I can easily get 3100 but backed it down because I shoot Elites and will start to slump at around 3000. My one buddy also gets 3000 with his edge and no pressure. Matt
 
My 338 lapua imp. in mcree stock with 30 inch bartlein and 5x22x56 nightforce will be done by friday, will pick up at gunsmith. I have h-1000 , rl-25, VV570, and i just call and can get 3 lbs of RL-33. I think i will leave now and get the 3 lbs of RL-33 so i dont miss out. Any one have a load for 338 lapua imp. with RL-33. My 30 inch bartlein is Zero free bore and 370 chambered, its a single shot. I wanted to have room for lots of powder so i had gunsmith seat 300 otm berger farther out!

That calculator won't tell you how much of the total wind drift is coming from what range. You need to use a calculator that has the ability to use multiple wind velocity and directions. You'll find the larger portion of the total wind drift comes early, while the bullet is slowed at the longer range it does not have the time of flight to affect the trajectory.

Take the 338 Terminator at 1500 yards pushing a 300gr OTM at 3198 fps, 10 mph wind from 9 O'clock.

At 1500 yards you'll have a total wind drift of 81.4 inches so breaking it down into three 500 yard wind increments the first 500 yards contributes 38.4 inches to the total, the second 500 yards contributes 30 inches and the final 500 yards only contributes 13 inches to the total inches.

You can see pictures of one of my guns with the scope high. The scope on this gun is 4 inches above bore. The pictures show how high the scope is. I also have 17 pound light guns with the scope mounted high and they shoot almost as good as the heavy guns. I can prove what I shot by the scored targets shot in competition. The targets don't lie. Actually you can provided you are working with a steady wind the whole distance. It is additive, just look at the increase with each hundred yard increment.

I don't know the BC on your 300gr OTM. If you are talking the Berger with the .818 BC that's a monster of a bullet.

I'm coming up with a considerable difference from what you are with a total WD of 97.5" and 59" of that occurs from 1000yds out.

Again, even with a monster bullet like that the longer it flies, the more the wind affects it's flight and the rate it moves from POA each hundred yards increases.

I'm using full value 10mph wind and your velocity.

Each hundred yards, the rate, not just the total increases all the way out.

As the bullet slows, the wind has longer during each of those hundred yard intervals to work against you and as such the last third accounts for over half of the total wind drift.

Of course with lower BC bullets that is even more pronounced which is why you guys who are really serious about pushing out beyond 1000yds do so much better with the heavy 338's and bigger bullets with the highest BC's than you would win my puny little 180-210gr .30's.
