The local news just aired a great piece that I thought I'd share with everyone. It's about one of "Footloose Montana"s members (they're an anti-trapping group) threatening physical violence against a guy that posted a photo of himself with a trapped wolf in the background. (it was a pretty cool photo too:D!) The article didn't say just how the threat was made, or who actually made it, (of course it was made anonymiously). But it does sound like the police are treating it as a criminal case. I thought it was pretty funny to threaten a guy who's trapping wolves, maybe the dude doesn't quite get how trapping works, or what kind of folks do it. I'd imagine that the trapper hasn't lost as much sleep over the deal as the wolf hugger who made the threats.

Hopefully, the trapper doesn't have to defend himself we''l never hear the end of it. They act like these tree huggers are an endangered species when there's one on every corner.
Here the police aren't investigating property crimes, assault rises to maybe, and I was told they have been told to profile traffic stops to be fairly certain the driver can pay the fine, and try not to stop anyone with warrants as we can't afford to lock them up. Then they wonder why carry permit demand is high. One can only hope if they bother him it's in the woods. Pavement, and concrete is too hard to shovel.

There was an article yesterday in the Great Falls Tribune. The FPW investigated it and said he was on the up7& up . N o voilations on the trapper.

I dont mean to hijack this thread but i would like to see this wolf debate kept to the forefront. While i was reading this article on Yahoo news this morning i was struck with the perfidity of what a biased article this was. The numbers on the wolf populations are extremely low and missleading and the stats of what the wolves were doing to the rest of the ecosystem were nonexistant. It was just a blatant "stirr the pot" issue. After reading some of the comments section under the article i noticed that there were not that many who really sided with the anti's but there were a few who were sort of sitting on the fence....what i mean is they didnt mind that the wolf was killed, they just thought it should have been done humanely.."a quick shot to the head" .....and that they shouldnt have posted a picture smiling and laughing about it.

Now dont get me wrong. I have no problem with seeing the pictures and i dont advocate we stop doing it , but i am going advocate something else later. You see , these photos would never have been seen by the likes of these activist types had they not been circulated by activists who do this in the name of their whatever cause for the simple reason to raise more money for that cause, of which they can siphon off their share (administrative costs). These people want you to think they are oh so high and mighty with their you name it cause IE: save the wolf, save the whale, save the freaking pribles jumping mouse, but that is not the issue here...it is raising money from the uneducated masses who make themselves feel good by sending in donation dollars to a cause that they cannot go out and do something about by themselves. Most of your ordinary everyday people dont troll sites like LRH looking for things to be offended by, but they do have their "friends of animals" , "wildearth Gaudians" websites they belong to who send them this stuff just to solicit their donations. If you dont believe it, just log on and join a few and see what you get on a daily basis. We have the same thing going on on the other side of the issue. Take for instance the Biggame Forever folks who flooded us with calls for support just a few weeks back. Now to what i am advocating:

What we need is a group of volunteers from within the ranks of the hunting community that will take the time to form and coordinate a campaign of educating the masses out there with informed, scientific facts whenever stuff like this is thrown out to see what sticks to the wall. When hysterical ennuendo is faced with scientific facts, the facts ussually win. Any takers? One name that jumps out at me from reading these discussions is HarperC. Your posts are always well researched and very infomative on these issues. Care to join up? Just food for thought and discussion.....AJ

Thanks for the kind words dogdinger. You are right the issue needs something, our current groups have been slow to respond, and at times short on being passionate about hunting, or have compromised their credibility/integrity. Just a quick note to let you know I got the message, I'm headed out for a couple of days, and I'll give thought to a more complete response. Carl
