Tested the 123g AMAX that a buddy of mine gave me and shot .43 with 49g of H4831sc. Figured that was a good enough starting point to jump up to the 140g to test.

I loaded 3 each with 48g, 49g, and 50g. Haven't had time to test them, but in the meantime wondered if anyone has a load for their 6.5 that they have used with the 140 AMAX.

I have been doing some load development with the 140 AMAX in the 6.5x284 with H4831SC, H4350, H1000, RETUMBO, and RL17 in a 27" barrel.

So far (all things considered) H4350 has done the best. I have the lowest ES/SD with H4350 and 210M primers. I shot a group tonight right at 1-1/4" at 300 yards with 46.5 grains. 2891 FPS. I am going to proceed up to 48.0 grains. I don't see much point in going past 48. I am nearing peak velocity with H4350 at 46.5

Another good load was 50.5 of H4831SC which shot 1-5/8" at 300 yards. ES was a bit much with all the charges tested. 2840 FPS at 50.5 grains. I can easily work up to 52-53 grains.

RETUMBO has shown promise in accuracy and definately velocity. 59.0 shot just over 3100 without any pressure signs. 59.0 while not 'hot' is about all I can fit in the case and still seat bullets.

RL17 has also shown great accuracy potential with over 3100 FPS as well. I think 3100 FPS came around 50 or 51 grains. I am sure they will go faster but I am not willing to test this out on my rifle's freshly cut throat.

The verdict is still out with H1000.

Hope that helps!

I was shooting vv560 with 123 lapua @ 3400 one hole for 27" kreiger barrel.

that was the most I could get with any powder 140s with magnun could get 3100 good luck.

Thanks for the tips!

I've been able to test a few different loads now and I'm getting close. 48g and 48.5g of H4831sc have produced .441 and .419 respectively and that's the best so far. For whatever reason, my rifle seems to spray bullets all over with any powder charge over 49g. Granted, I have only tried RL17 and H4831sc but have had the same results with 4 different bullets now.

Maybe it's the jump? Mine is pretty excessive at .115.

I'm trying to track down some H4350 so I can test it as well. I don't really want to dump $30 on a tub just to test 9 rounds. I never did understand why powder manufacturers don't offer "sample" size tubs.
