22 LR Trainer Savage or...?

So, I am LEFT HANDED and am currently looking for a 22LR rifle.
I want this rifle to relieve my other centerfire rifles while teaching me a bit about the wind. I will use this rifle 80% from the bench/prone and 20% hunting. I am looking mostly at accuracy but I do know it comes at a price so I'm trying to stay less than $450.
So far I have looked at the Savage Mark II BTLVS $353 and CZ452 American $390. Is there a rifle that anyone could recommend or others? I definitely want to stay with a left hand action that is why my scope is so limited. Thanks in advance.

Both the rifles you're looking at will be great shooters, but the CZ is the better buy. I've had both, but I still have the CZ, and have bought two more since. The CZ isn't nearly as picky about what you feed it, and the fit and finish is WAY better. The CZ has a propper "rifle" feel to it, while the Savage feels more like a 22. Both are accurate, but the Savages seem to need alot of baby sitting to stay that way. You may even want to take a look at the 452 Military trainer. It's a little cheaper, but has all the accuracy, you just have to get over the weird looking "hogback" stock. Be warned... CZs are like potato chips... it's hard to have just one!
Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy either one. Take a look at Rimfire Central, just like LRH, the guys there have a wealth of knowledge and are happy to share it.

Thank you so much for the information. Its nice to hear from someone who has experience with both rifles. Financial circumstances have delayed my purchase so I now have more time to research.

I have had good luck with my Savage FV & TR .22 rifles. The mags need some attention from time to time though.

I just bought a Savage mark II TR-SR (special from lipsey's) and with CCi green tag it is doing 0.25"-<0.5" at 50 yds and about 1" at 100yds each with 5 shot groups off of a bipod and sand bag prone. I thought this was mighty fine shooting for a 22LR. unfortunately being left handed the only similar gun that savage offers is the BTLVS but I would hope for similar performance. Could a CZ american be expected to perform similarly or better with its lighter barrel?

My American shoots right in there (if I bring my A game) My Military trainer does a little better. Sad to say that it's not a lefty... but I'm so used to shooting "wrong" handed that I hardly even notice anymore.

I'm in the same boat being a lefty, I shoot a model 12 BVSS and will buy the Savage BTLVS. The cheapest I've found it is $394.

No need to spend big money on a trainer - get a NEF (New England Firearm) single shot. Great for teaching someone firearm safety. I even take mine out just for a change from carrying the bolt guns. We float some streams in the Adirondacks and I take the 45/70 for that. Second from bottom.
