I've taken two chip shot deer with the rifle but I got a chance to stretch it out some this morning. Had a doe come out on the far ridge top this morning. I ranged her at 525 yards but held off shooting for a while hoping the buck I'd seen a couple of times would show up. The buck was a no-show so I decided to take the doe. My Droid "Shooter" program called for 6.1 MOA for 525 yards shooting the Swift 150 gr. Scirocco II at 3250 fps. I dialed that into the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56. There was no wind so I held high shoulder and touched the 1 lb. Jewell trigger and let one fly. After the recoil I recovered in time to see the deer rare slightly and fall over. She kicked once and stilled. The bullet entered at the front edge of the right shoulder and exited through the center of the left shoulder. The exit hole was only an inchin diameter.
The farm has the possibility of a 720 yard shot. Maybe next time. Or I may have to go back to the railroad track.

Great shooting! It's fun when a plan comes together.

It also sounds like the Shooter program for droid is fairly accurate from the results I've been reading about.

Have you tested the drops out further in a controlled test?

I've checked them out to 1000 yards with my load and they are very close. You have to make sure your data its correct for the shot. Correct temperature, humidity, altitude, etc. You have to run the program for every encounter to make sure the drop tables are correct. I can't imagine trying to use one set of drop tables for every situation. Just the changing temps and barometric pressure would be enough to cause a miss at long range.

nice work. the scirocco, IMO, is the best bonded bullet out there. Yes, they are a bit time consuming on load tuning but when you get one it's usually not bested very easily. I've taken quite a few blackbears at close range and the bullets blow through shoulders easily.
