I am looking to buy a Verizon smartphone that someone is looking to get out of the contract with the older unlimited data plan. I realize that It would be asking alot but I would like to leave the phone in your name and add mine so that I could take advantage of the unlimited data transfer package. I am a verizon subscriber and have been there for about 15 years and I missed out on the unlimited data package deal by three days. I am going to add the mobile hotspot feature so I can connect to my laptop without fear of going over on data transfer. I will take the phone (it doesn't matter what type of phone as long as it has unlimited data plan) and we can transfer the bill to my residence, your name would just have to stay on the plan. If anyone is interested, let me know.

verizon still has unlimited data plans.

I think that you are mistaken sir... I can only find a 10 GB Monthly Data Allowance rate plan and its $80.00 a month! I have a thunderbolt already on my plan ( my sons phone) and it has unlimited data usage for only $29.99 a month. I wish they DID have unlimited data usage plans, or even if there current data packages were more affordable would be different!

It wouldn't help you out any when you create a with hotspot it still cost $20 for every 2G I was going to do the same thing off my phone till I found that out. Good luck though.

Jessegibson, you can "root" your phone and then create a hotspot and they cant track it or charge you the hotspot fees. I just need the unlimited data plan to do the things I need to do, I can get around the other obstacles. Thanks for the reply though.

When I get a phone with a data plan that I can live with, one of the first things that I am going to do is "root" the phone. In basic terms what this does is unlocks -so to speak- the phone so that you are capable to do many things that you could not before without verizon being able to track/charge you for them ie; I will be able to use the phone as a hotspot without ANY additional charge from verizon. The only thing that you cant get around is the amount of data that is streamed through your device, hence the reason I need the unlimited data plan.

Sprint doesn't work in my area.

I checked and I have unlimited data. I stepped through the upgrade wizard for the 4S and saw this.

This device requires selection of a $30.00, $50.00 or $80.00 per month data service and a messaging option to process this order. If you currently have certain existing data or messaging options (e.g. Customers with $29.99/Unlimited data plan or a bundled plan with data and messaging) you can still place your order at this time, but such features may drop off your plan. Upon receipt of device & activation you can have your existing options put back on your plan by calling customer service at 1-800-922-0204.

// This seems to be double-talk for, "we are taking it away and hopefully you won't know you had it.

The only way that I am aware that you can keep the unlimited plan is if you buy a new phone for full retail price and activate it yourself. If you upgrade then your plan would "reset" so to speak and this is what they are talking about you could add options back after you receive your new device... no thanks.

I did go ahead and bite the bullet and bought a new phone the other day. I just couldnt pass up several discounts and bundle options that I had coming. It was a nightmare for the customer service rep and it took 3 days to get all the discounts and credits straight but I saved $253 dollars and I got the 5 gig data plan for an extra $10 off every month. I guess thats as good as its going to get for me. However, I will still take someones unlimited data plan if they get tired of Verizon. I still could use the unlimited as my primary data plan and I my son or wife could have my 5 gig (after I cut it back to 2 gigs) plan.
