I have a few choices in locktite what bottle should I use on my Base's?

If you feel you have to locktite the bases use blue! Screws with blue locktite can be removed without using heat, but still hold well.

Most people will tell you to use 242 (color blue) for base screws, but Loctite will tell you not to! They will tell you to use 222 (color purple). Above all never use the red stuff!! Also buy the small bottle of Loctite Primer, and put it in the female as well as on the male threads. Let it set for about five or ten minutes. Then put a drop of threadlocker on each screw (rub the threadlocker all the way around the thread, but do not use very much). 242 is actually ment for screws that are 6mm and larger.

I use the red which is 271. It is the best holding and can be removed with heating the screw with the tip of a soldering iron.

I use the purple stuff (222). I still want to get the screws loose if I want to change something. If I ever have a problem I will change.

I've never had a mounting screw come loose with purple, and some of my bases have been mounted on somethings that generate some serious recoil. I have used the blue in a pinch. Also have used another brand or two that I thought was better than Loctite, but screws were a bear to remove.

Just weld them in place and you wont have to worry about that locktite bs.

Most people use to much and that can cause trouble no matter which one you use.
When using any thread sealer apply "Only" one drop to the screw and none to the
threaded hole and it will release without heat.
The 222 does not get as hard as the the red and when you break the screw loose it
does not snap like the others(Making you think that you broke the screw).
The trick like Trickymissfit said is to use it sparingly.

I hate to think about how many bottles of Loctite I've bought thru the years, and I've used it on everything from a #2-56 all the way out to a 3" extra fine thread. The only thing I never used it on was Timken bearing nuts. I've even had some stuff where red wouldn't hold, and had to come up with something better. For extremely fine threads, I found that Vibratite was better ( something like a 1.5"-32). Just apply one small drop and let it dry before assembeling. Loctite on the otherhand is anarobic, and will not harden till air is removed. The best stuff I ever found was some thread locker that came in a black bottle with a green lable. Think the company went belly up as I never could get anymore. I recommend that everybody use the Loctite Primer on both the female and male thread form before using the regular Loctite. Just let it dry for about five or six minutes before applying the Loctite. You'll get a better job. One otherthing about Loctite is that you ought to keep it in the fridge when your not using it. Lasts longer that way.
