The title really says it all....If you didn't know whether a 180lb whitetail was going to step out at 100 yards or 1000 yards from your position, and you were using a 30cal with the capabilities of a hot 300RUM or 30-338 weatherby. What bullet would you want to be sending down range...something that would still perform well on the 1000 yard buck, but wouldn't grenade the 100 yard buck...because a bloodshot mess is no fun to clean and messy to put on the BBQ.

One other factor to consider, a higher BC is always better in windy (gusty) country.

Yeah, but when you get close to 1000yds I don't believe the accubond will have enough velocity to reliably open up. Therefore somehing like a balistic tip will work well.

Drop the Accubomb on them!!! Seen and heard of to many bad things with the 30 cal Bergers to shoot deer close with them.

I have had great luck with the accubond bullet in my 300RUM! One thing to do, to avoid a messy piece of meat, is make some messy brains. If you can consistantly hit a deer at 1000 yards, then a 2 inch brain at 100 -200 yards should be no problem.

Go with a 210 VLD, 208 A-max or 190 VLD. 400 out shoot shoulder, closer shoot neck. Done deal. Even if it grenades, 3" penetration will kill the deer swiftly with a neck shot, and any of these bullets will have at least pieces penetrating deeper than that. If you plan on throwing in bigger game, the 200gr accubonds has a reputation of dropping large game with good penetration. However you don't here of as many bang-flops with an AB as you do with a Berger or A-max. Pick your poison, any of the above mentioned bullets will really put the hurt on a deer!

My buddy killed a large MD buck at 1180 this year with the 200ab out of the 300rum, Bullet expanded well and fully penatrated. He even packed out the heart with a golf ball sized hole thru it so I could see how well it expanded.
