Howdy all.
Would any of you have a recommendation for an ACCURATE after market T/C Encore barrel?
I am looking at a 280 Ackley. I've done some research but i'd like to know if anyone here has some field and target experience with them.

Thanks!!

Without stating the range, wind conditions, what the target is, what shooting style you use , and what weight you prefer I don't think you'll get a reasonable answer. You didn't even say if you're using the Encore as a rifle or a pistol.

I have a Rem 700 in 280 AI. It's a good cartridge. But so are the 7mm08, 270Win, 7mm Rem Mag and 30-06 which surround it for case capacity and bullet diameter. None of those are my most accurate rifles at any range, but they're all good for hunting. The more accurate rifles typically have unsuitable terminal ballistics or are impractical to carry.

i think the best encore custom barrel maker going right now is MGM. shorter wait and a great product. as far as being accurate most customs are if you do your part like breakin and reload.

Match Grade Machines MGM . I had heard nothing but GOOD about their barrels so I ordered a 15" SS by Shilen in 30-30AI for my Contender. Man will this barrel shoot. I have not found anything yet that will not shoot in it. Even my fire form loads with some old IMR 4320 powder I had around and some pulled 147 FMJ's from some military ammo would put 5 under 1" at 100 yards. Their prices are very good and the wait time is short for a custom barrel.

I have heard good and bad about all the aftermarket barrels and what it cames down to is how you set up your frames to your barrels. checking for loose hinge pins and barrel to frame gap which is the main contributor of head space. if you get all the things done up right even the factory tc barrels will shoot. i have four of them right now and no lie they all shoot under .4 inch groups. I have 223, 243ai, 25-06ai, and 270 gibbs. I do have another one coming from the tc custom shop in a 5.7x28 all of these are for the encore. I also have a contender pistol and both barrels shoot great 223ai and a 7-30 waters. Good Luck !!! these will hsoot accurately if you take the time to set them up correctlygun)

I recommend the bullberry barrel works barrels. I have one in 7mmremmag and it consistiently shoots .5 moa with H1000 and 168 bergers

My most accurate Encore handgun barrel is a 15" ported .338 GNR. This is the 405 Winchester case necked down to .338. It will shoot a 200 grain Nosler Accubond at 2650 fps. and I have some 200 yard 3 shot groups that measure less than 1". It has become my "go to" barrel.

+1

MGM, Bullberry and SSK all make great barrels. However, if you have a loose hinge pin or do not know how to set up headspace for a break action. You are SOL and does not matter which barrel.

Go to Mike Bellms website and learn about the TCs first and he has a for sale section also.

I have had really good luck with Match Grade Machine. I have Two Encore barrels made by M.G.M. a 22-250 and a 25-06 and I have two contender barrels also made by M.G.M. a .223 and a 30-30 all shoot excellent and I am very satisfied with their work and would recommend them to anyone looking for a custom T/C barrel. I have also contacted M.G.M. a couple times with questions and the people there are extra nice and have helped me out. I once called and asked about a factory T/C barrel that I was having issues with and I had not even bought anything from them and they recommended changing out the locking lugs on the barrel and sent me various sizes to try which corrected the problem I was having. So I thought that was going above and beyond to help me out.

As far as Mike Bellm I would take a lot of his products with a grain of salt.

I've had great results with Match Grade Machine! They have a really fast turnaround, and quality builds. Also very reasonable for a custom barrel. Here is my latest barrel, 28" full bull fluted in 7mm STW and my first harvest with it from Friday the 13th
