So, I'm sitting at the coffee shop discussing guns and shooting. One fellow is running down the .308's. I did not want to argue with him, opinions are like assholes, etc. But, then he starts on this terrific 25/06 load he has worked up...ah, at 6000fps. I could not keep my mouth shut, but fortunately, someone else jumped in. Now, I recall a bud shooting a .22/250 at some pretty wild velocities and I believe (memory is not so great) he said he worked up to a load at that speed, but the bullets turned to **** before they got to the target. So, anyone know of someone pushing the 25/06 to those kind of velociities...and...could they hit anything?

I was once told this forum was family oriented, I do appreciate that
and suggest in a friendly way to keep our language around that
idea.

The answer is "NO"

The 2506 is a great round but not capable of 4000 ft/sec much less 6000 ft/sec !!!!!!

There is not enough case capacity and there are no bullets that will stand that velocity
in .25 cal without coming apart.

The really hot .22 cal cartriges can reach 4400 + but not without some bullet problems.

The best advice would be to ignore him and and ask someone on this web site like you did.

Being long range shooters Most of these guys get more velocity than any other group
because velocity helps at extreme distance and use Looooong barrels to boot.

Years ago Roy Weatherby tested a cartridge based on a 378 case with a 70 gr bullet to 5700+
ft/sec to see if it was practical and (And it wasn't).The 378 case has over twice the case
capacity of the 2506 so you can see the folly in this statement.

Enough said

After re-reading my response, I also want Deepwater to know that I was in no way referring to his post but to the person who made the statement! In any event, I responded to an outrageous claim with an equally outrageous response. Again, I sincerely apologize.....Richlightbulb

Elkaholic,

I personally find NOTHING offensive in your statement. Too bad someone who needs to get a life objected to the word "NUTS". I say this because that is the only word I saw that was used to describe the claims made by the person you were referring to.

Now, as far the 25-06 goes, I spent some time and effor developing a couple of loads for my 25-06 Ackley Improved. Using Barnes 100 Gr. XLC - Blue Coated bullets, the fastest load that did not exceed safe pressure levels and yielde good precision was with over 60 grains of RL-19 with the bullets seated 0.040" from the rifling. Top velocity, measure with my Chrony Beta Chronograph was 3540 fps. and groups averaged 1.5 inches at 200 meters.

I am currently developing another load for moly-coated Nosler 110 gr. Accubonds, with H4831 Xtreme, since it is somewhat slower than RL-19. So far, a load of around 59.0 grs. has yielded decent groups (2 inches) at 200M. Velocity is at 3400 fps. Next step is to test various seating depths, after deer season.

I could accept someone developing a load pushing 3750 fps. out of a 25-05 AI, using the lightest bullets available, but any 6000 fps claims out of an ordinary 25-06 are pure B. S.

PS. Excuse me! After re-reading the original post, the originator used the s..t word in the text. Minor offense, in my book, but yes, let's keep it clean.

Regards,

U guys don't no wut yur talkin abowt!
I shoot my 25 aught six at 7000 fps. Them bullits don't drop at all out to 700 yards then they just fall to the ground.

He he!

I apologize to eaglet and anyone else that I may have offended.....Rich

elkaholic,

you definitally said nothing wrong, and I do not believe you offended anyone.

I'm still moved by your willingness and sincerity to make things right.

You are a good man!

My post is just below yours but I was not referring to your post. I'm sorry for

the confusion.

I agree with you Joaquin, anyone that is offended by the word "NUTS" has to

be nuts. As far as me needing to get a life, :) I assure you I've already gotten

one!!! :)

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone! I'll try to make my yes, yes and my no, no from now on.
Lets let this one rest and get back to SHOOTIN!!....Rich

My apologies if (actually, not if, but since) I offended anyone. Thanks for the responses folks. I thought he was way off the wall with the speed claims for his 25/06.
