HELP! Draw weight ???

I have an old Mathews Signature bow that was given to me. Have the cam changed to match my draw length. However, the draw weight is maxed out at 55 lbs (supposed to be from 50-70 lbs as noted on the limb). I took it to Scheel's yesterday, the archery mgr took some measurements and thumb through some reference manuals but to no avail. He's calling Mathews today for some advise.

Any idea(s)? Please advise. Thanks.

If your draw length is shorter than the original cam the bow was shipped with, the draw weight will be slightly lighter, but not by that much. I'd have him check the cable length, as a long (maybe stretched?) cable will decrease bow weight drastically (depends on how much too long). If the cable is too long, have him check the string specs too. If you need a new string, I highly recommend Winners Choice, pricey, but worth the money (and won't stretch half as much as a standard string as they are pre-stretched).

ADDED INFO:

Old CAM = 32"

New CAM = 26" (NO, did not change string)

ATA is 1/2" shorter

Brace height is 3/4" longer.

Archery manager called Mathews - both manager and Mathews tech think it might be more than a string. Archery expressed concern and do not want to advise a string change ($65) if that's not the most probable cause. However, Mathews offered to ship a free string - awesome customer service. Provided the S/N and will be ordered tomorrow.

I have my fingers crossed that this does it ... will soon find out.

I believe what you're saying is that the new cam requires 6 inch shorter string. With that much longer string, it will be difficult to properly load the limbs/cam to the designed bow poundage. I'm betting the new string (if correct one for the new cam) will solve your problem.

I believe Gator is right, I work as a bow tech at an archery shop. I'd have to see the position of the cam to be sure, but...

If your brace hieght is off your string is the problem. What letter is the cam you just got? Also check the position that the cam is sitting in there should be a hole that is about 1/16" in diameter it should be about a 1/4" in front of the limb, that will tell you it is sittting right, but it can be sitting in there correct and still have the wrong length of strings and cables. It won't be any where close to six inches off though. If it were me I would just put your bow in a press take one end of your string off and untwist it looser 25 times or so. Than take your bus cable off on the bottom and twist it a hair tighter. just watch that hole in relation to your limb when you get it back together and it should start showing a increase in poundage.

Back in 1997 I had a archery shop and sold mathews bows until 2001. The more I think about it there may not be that hole in the cam it may be the max cam that came out the next year that had the hole. But if memory serves right you had to have a longer string but twisting should get you in the ball park.?

No hole. However you can tell that the cam is already rotated forward to far. something changed on those cams though cause you use to not have to route the string over the second and first peg I don't think anyway. It's been along time since I have played with that stuff. how is the draw length?
