SOLD/EXPIRED wanted: Large shank Savage RUM action

talk to jim at northland shooters supply. go to savage shooter forum .com. he has a classified section there. he sells target actions loose (not built)

thanks but iam looking for a rum length action. My understanding is that only the RUM's and the 375H&H were large enough to build a muti shot 338/300 rum off of. the target actions aren't long enough!

Earl Fouraker built one off a small shank regular long action. I believe it started as a 270. His was a 7mmRUM, but he was seating 180g VLD's with a longer OAL than what Shawn Carlock uses in his Edge's.

He started with a new centerfeed action and used a staggerfeed mag box.

geargrinder you got any more info on that conversion? I have a stagger feed 30-06 that I was thinking of trying to build a RUM or edge on, a repeater would be cool! is there a big difference between the centerfeed and staggerfeed action?

The new centerfeeds are better suited for long OAL repeaters. The have a longer opening by quite a bit.

What Earl did was take an older RUM/H&H length mag box, cut the tabs off, slot the end for the bullets to go through. Then he fixed the mag box into the stock.

Here is a link to his build, some of the pictures are gone but you'll get the jist.

If you don't want to convert your old staggerfeed, new Stevens 200's can be had for less than $300. You can probably get $75-$100 of that back selling the barrel and stock.

If you build a rum off of a standard long action it will be small shank and if you want a repeater you still need to find an old rum action or H&H to pull the magazine parts off of. I really don't want to get into the "is a small shank strong enough for a RUM" there is plenty of that discussion all over the net...

back to the topic at hand - looking for a large shank rum action, the only way to find long action and also large shank is to get one of the savage factory chambered RUM's or H&H's

thanks!

Jorvin,
the 116 is a small shank action. I do of course thank you for your help, but once again i am looking for a large shank long action and the only place these exist is in factory chambered rums and 375 H&H's. these large shank long actions were only made for a few years and while not exactly 'rare' they do take a bit of looking to find one.

I think there was a complete SS 7mmRUM on there for about the same price. There were quite a few pm's tossed around, but it was never posted spf. Take a look.
