I have been looking for the load data for Hornadys 208 gr. Amax to be used in a 30-06. Do anyone have experience with this bullet in a 30-06 and if so how was the accuracy and what twist rate do you need?

Welcome to long range hunting!

I have not seen much for the 30-06 using 208 gr. You would be getting around 2500 ft/sec muzzle velocity and that would not be popular for long range shooting.

Many, though, would be surprised how amazingly flat it would shoot with the
210 gr. Berger and or 208 Amax due to their high BC.

I hope some one would help.

With such a high BC I can't imagine that they would not perform well. I have seen a couple of other forms (not LRH) and they are "claiming to get around 2750 fps with 25-26 inch barrels" This seems to be a little hot if you compare with any of the reloading books for similar weight bullets.

Found this over at relodersnest.com

There's a few folks over at snipershide.com that use the 208 amax and 210 vld in the .30-06 with some really good results. Out of a 26" barrel they're claiming 2800fps. I can't verify anything as I've not done any loads yet.
good luck.

I found a guy over at snipershide that said his load for .30-06 using the amax was 60gr RL 22 and he was getting just about 2700fps with a 22.5" barrel...he was also using moly amax which will probably make a difference.

Like I said, I can't verify it first hand, but I'm planning on working up some loads once my rifle comes in. I'll report back when I get the chance....

I haven't found any data for it. Most of the shooters that I've found using the 208 amax in .30-06 settled with rl 22. My rifle builder came up with a load that HSM is loading for him and I think he used both rl19 and rl 22 in the development stages. Not sure what HSM is using for the current loads though.

Allright looks like I will have to try to get ahold of some r-22. Thanks!
