Seating VLD bullets

My question is do you need to do anything different for case preparation for seating VLD bullets?

I was reading somewhere that you can damage the projectile when seating VLD bullets that have been normally chamfered and deburred....is this true?. I've just bought a pack of Berger 168gr VLD and want to use them but I don't want to ruin them.

I'm loading these and don't do anything differant. We did start using a lube now though when seating bullets....I'm thinkin it's froggy's but not sure.

Good dies I'm sure would be a help though.

I'd say use the best dies you can get and make sure the cases are trimmed square so the bullet contacts evenly all around when seating and inside chamfer with a VLD chamfer tool which has more taper that a standard chamfering tool. Link--> Case Mouth Chamfering - Sinclair VLD Chamfering Tool

I don't even inside camfer at all. I just trim nice and square, outside deburr and then with a power case driver polish all necks inside/out with 0000 stainless steel. VLD's seat like a dream. I pulled a few after seating and the only marks were from the bullet puller

I chamfer all cases as part of case preperation. Standard tool for normal bullets and VLD tool for VLD bullets.

They seat much easier and consistant...as least i think so. THe stuff is called froggy's. I wouldnt use case lube this stuff is made for this. put it on a cotton swab and it goes inside case mouths

The only reason I don't chamfer is to keep the alignment of the mouth perfect. I have noticed that after inside chamfering, the amount of chamfer varied in depth d/t an imperfect alignment of the case and chamfering tool. If you do inside chamfer, use some type of tool (i.e. wilson inside VLD chamfer tool that fits on the trimmer) to keep it aligned for perfect depth and uniformity of cut.

I believe there is a video from Richards custom rifles on reloading that further explains why I don't inside chamfer. After it comes out of my wilson trimmer, that neck is so perfect, I hate to screw it up by sticking something in the neck
