Powder , primers and bullits shortage

Definitely better now than 1-2 years ago. H4350 seems to pop up everywhere over the last couple months. H1000 too. I got 8lbs of RL23 the other day.

Primers are out there. We can not expect 3¢ - 4¢ primers anymore. 9¢-12¢ is the new norm.

Everything costs more. It's not going to get better in the foreseeable future either.

I relentlessly scour all sites and every avenue to secure, maintain and augment my modest inventory of components. I have discovered numerous fraudulent on-line sites that combine theft with phishing for personal info. During my occasional visits to LGS's I have seen much frustration and angst among those failing to secure needed components and examples of extreme price gouging. Supply problems have also exasperated shortages. NATO inclusion of Sweden & Finland is likely to divert various components or production efforts for military stockpiles. I have not loaded ammo for my .300 WM for over a year & shoot mostly .224 & 6mm with small powder charges & SRP's.
Here us a load you might like. 243Win Peterson SRP brass, Badlands 80 gr BD2 47.5 gr StaBall6.5, CCI SRP should yield 3600-3700 fps from 22-24" 1:10 twist. I've seen pressure at 3800 fps from 22" barrel. Very temp stable. Good for everything including Elk out to 500-600 yds

FWIW … I have been using small rifle, small pistol, regular and magnum interchangeably. There is no discernible difference. (Magnum for magnum, regular for regular of course).

There is a YT video that tested the "power" of small primers and it showed zero difference. That was enough to convince me.

I bought 5k TulAmmo primers back when 44 was in office, just after Sandy Hook. Been burning through those for practice. Every one, wo fail, goes boom.

Before this, I was picky about my component's. Now, only on my rifles that I hunt with.

It's been near 3 yrs now and still we are experiencing shortages of Components to reload. What are the current excuses today ? Very frustrating not being able to find these things.
I agree!! 210M & 215M & WLRM primers are like ghosts of the past............

One of our local stores, Runnings, still gets most the primers still but on a very rare occasion. When they do get them, I was shocked to see cci 200's and cci 400's at 39 dollars for 1000. This has earned my business. They have refused to price gouge and I respect that, some of the other big stores are still being greedy and have pushed me away because of it. 85-95 per 1000 seems to be the norm on some of the bigger internet sites and then with the hazmat at 20 bucks you're always over 100 bucks a 1000. Supply and demand is one thing but I think they do it purposely sometimes cause desperation will pay up eventually!

I was able to obtain 8lbs IMR 4895, small pistol, CCI #34 and large rifle in the last 2 months so better than it was.

Varget, 4350 4831 sc , H1000,
most Hodgdons except Retumbo are in stock everywhere.

Bullets that were unobtainium are cropping up everywhere too.

Berger 215s, Sierra 2125s, lots of small rifle primers.

Mostly missing are large rifle primers, Large rifle magnum primers and the Alliant powders especially RL 26 are short.

VIHTAVUORI IS there sporadically,
IMR and Western/ Ramshot are widely there. Just no more Endurons.

Just need Alliants snd Primers to get with it.

I'm in Pueblo Colorado and there isn't any H4350 or any Hogdon stick powder of any kind on a shelf at any store here. Some ball powder at times. No primers of any size on a shelf. Online is the only option and it is stupid expensive to pay over 100 for 1000 plus hazmat and shipping. People are either hoarding them or scalping them.

I have been able to score some primers on Gun Broker ,$12.50 after shipping.Got some powder that I use on Craigslist.
I shoot mostly trap in summer so I keep an eye out for shotgun items.Bought some extra bushing so I could use powder I found.
You have to be flexible.Found a box of 120gr 6.5 Sierra for my RPM ,so I could shoot some steel(stuff I would not normally be interested in!)

Ive been looking steadily for H1000 and Nosler brass.... Sometimes some awesome members let us know about stock but by the time were there its all sold out. So ready to be able to find stuff again.
You have to be quick! Powder are coming back, but primers seem to be very hard to come by, or $160+ for a brick+all the other shipping charges. That what I have been wondering where the primers? Plus somewhere around $40.00 per 1000.
I have seen it in Mexico=North (aka) Calif. for primers @ $40.00 including sale tax. In Montana at the same time @ $160.00 and no sales tax. All within 2 weeks.

Just bought 1lb of Ramshot Magnum last night at my local Sportsmans Warehouse for $37 and change inc taxes. I'd like some more Retumbo but I'm patient. Not hurting for anything else as something told me back in 2017 when stuff became available to buy a pound of powder or 1000 primers every paycheck. If I had a good OT period, I'd buy both, kept on doing that until the supply ran out. At today's prices, I reckon I'm sitting on about $10,000 worth of powder and primers.

Did the same with .22 ammo. Was buying it in 5,000 case lots from Target Sports up in CT and shouldn't need to ever buy any more in my life.

Cases I've been lucky to find from a user named crod1972 over at 24hourcampfire. He's some kind of ballistics guy for a lab and sells their once fired stuff very reasonably. In the last 3 or 4 months, I've picked up 750 .264WM cases from him for around $240 total. Projectiles are out there too, been scoring a few here and there but I'm also a part time dealer and I'm seeing more availability from manufacturers without huge markups.

I just checked one of the distributors I use for CCI#250 LRM primers: $250 a case of 5000. I used to like Brownells but they are selling 1000 of the same primers for $106.99 so over double the wholesale price. Of course, neither the distributor nor Brownells have them in stock but it really shows how ruthless even once trusted sellers have become.

Desperate people will pay what they must to get what they want, so it ever was.
