250 accubond load fo 338 Edge

Has anyone been loading this for there 338 Edge? If so what kind of results and what powder/primer combo. I have been using the 300gn SMK but cant find any. Midway is backorderd untill march 19!!! so looking for some alternate loads untill then.

Any help is appriciated.

I'm in the same boat as you on the 300 smk's. I'm thinking of trying the Hornady 250g Match HPBT, but it will be a few weeks before I get back to the range.

I'll be sure to share any load information as applicable.

Put me in that same boat for not finding 300g SMK's.

I also want to find a load with the 250g AB. I know it wont be "as good" as the 300g SMK, but it will still work to 1K and thats really all the farther I need to be shooting anyways. Plus, you can always find AB's.

H-1000 still the powder of choice for 250g bullets?? Should we go with something a little faster burning such as RL-22 or???

I tried these four with the 250 AB and all were accurate. H-1000, Reloader 25, 7828 and magpro. I just quit working with the 250 and went with the 225 because the BC/velocity ratio was much better. If you need some 300 matchkings I just got in a thousand a couple months ago. I would sell some of those if anyone needs some. They are bulk packaged in one box. I would have to count them out. You can have them at my dealer price and pay the shipping.

The 338 Edge and the 338/300 is the same thing. I also shoot 92 grains of H-1000 behind the 300 SMK and I get 2791 FPS.

With the 250 SMK I have ran them to 3189 FPS with 98 grains of H-1000 and to 3197 with 95 grains of R-25

I knew the 338-300 and 338 EDGE were the same thing, I just thought I saw where LTLR had about 15 different .338 cals, so I was just seeing if he had something relatively close to the capacity of the EDGE was all.

JWP- You tried anything smaller then 250g?? Any 225's?

I have been building 338-300's since 1998 for guys all over the country. I am retired and don't have my shop any more so that is why all I got to do is get on here and blab. I kept 2-3 for myself and shoot one in particular quite often. I love the cartridge. It is one of my favorites. I shoot it, my two 338 lapuas and the 338-378's most and like those three the best. I had a great shooting 338 lapua improved that I loved to shoot but let a guy talk me out of it after I sold my shop and haven't built another.

My 338-300 's shoot the 225AB between 3275 and 3325 with the best accuracy. H-1000 still works well with those also but the faster powders start coming in there with the 200BT and 225AB. I bought up 200 pounds of the winchester mrp when they quit making it because it shot great in my lapuas and 338-300's. The best accuracy loads were with it. 200Bt at 3368 with 103 grains and consistently under 10fps spread. 100.3 grains pushed the 225AB 3310 fps. IMR 7828 shot well with the lighter bullets also. 98-100 grains shot well in my gun with the 225's. 102 grains of h1000 got me up to 3300 with the 225 seated right at the lands but can't remember the exact thousanths.

I forgot to add that Magpro shot real well in there also with the lighter bullets if you have any of that. I am pretty sure it was 99 grains with the 225AB. I do remember well it was a one hole group at a 100 and was like 8 fps spread right at 3300 fps.

Nothing smaller than the 250s so far.....

Shawn Carlock was able to get over 3300 with the 225 NAB....I forget what barrel length.

I have a 26" (hunter) and a 29" (LRT) in 338 Edge...Will try to see what I can wring out of both with a 225NAB.

I'm thinking RL25 or Retumbo should give top velocity with 500 yard hunting accuracy......Stay tuned.
