Build a custom rifle or get a Fierce?

I prefer the seekins action. I think it's a cleaner gun overall. In addition while both shoot 1/2 moa the seekins was a dream to load for and I have it shooting .2/3 groups easily. On its worst days I shoot 1/2.
Makes sense. I have not really heard anything bad about those Seekins - especially the PH2's. I love the new colors. Wish they were a bit lighter

I was planning a build but Seekins Ph2 was 95% what I was looking for. I got one in 300 prc; would have picked a 1-9 over a 1-10 but the Seekins has been a great rifle!

If you go custom, there's a lot of great people to pick from I'm sure. I'd call a couple of them and ask some questions. If you haven't got anyone picked, id suggest Dallas at Lane Precision Rifles. Great guy and easy to talk to. Builds a Great Rifle Too!!! Just a suggestion.

Can't seem to find anything for @huntful - maybe he doesn't have an account anymore? Was it pro 28N?
The reason you didn't find anything is because I misspelled his username (Huntnful). Here is a link to his tribute of the 28.

At least breeze over current offerings at 'Quarter Minute Magnums' http://www.quarterminutemagnums.com/ .
IMO they have the best existing business model (that I'm aware of), in that they show you how a gun they built shoots (by serial number and load). You decide if THAT GUN is what you want, and if so you buy THAT GUN.

I've mentioned this to 3 people at work, and it ended up that each bought a gun there, no wait, no risk.
Apparently they have an ability to get ammo as well. My coworkers bought a lot of specific ammo with their gun purchases.
So they may or may not have something up for offer right now, that you want, but it's worth checking with them now & then.

I love the LPR's by Dallas - but I can imagine they would blow that $3,800 way out of the water lol

Give Straight Jacket Armory a call , they can put you a barreled action together , complete stock , trigger etc or you can order your own stock and install too your liking . You might consider AG composites out of Oklahoma they build some high end stocks . Weatherby , Springfield etc are using their Carbon fiber stocks . One of my most accurate rifles has a A G composite Alpine Hunter factory pillar bedded ,shoots so good I didn't bother too bed it . That's the only stock I have that's not glassed bedded. Take a look at the A G website if you haven't already .

I was literally just looking at the AG website as I read this message, their stocks look really nice. I love the color patterns also.

If I do decide the build route - I am leaning towards these components:

Action: Defiance / Kelby, whichever is available honestly - does not seem to be much difference
Stock: AG Alpine Hunter
Barrel: Proof
Trigger: Triggertech
Brake: Terminator
Bottom Metal: Thinking Hawkins, but this is TBD - no idea on this aspect lol

All in all, I believe this would come to about $3,600 before tax and such - so about $1,000 more than a Fierce. Overall, the above would probably be a slightly better rifle than the Fierce, right?

If you're already considering a $3800 investment, I'd say spend a few extra 100's and have a custom rifle built. as to caliber: 300 PRC and dont look back. Speaking as someone who used 300 WM for years, I made the change to 300 PRC and am much happier for it. Check out Aaron Roberts @ Roberts Precision Rifles. He has done work for me and is absolutely top notch in quality, precision and accuracy. He can build his own actions (700 Rem style), in house and can build you just about anything you can dream up. You wont be disappointed. Just my $0.02...

Looking for my next elk rifle - not entirely sure of the caliber yet, I am thinking .300 PRC or the 28 Nosler. I have never built a rifle before, but am considering it! My question is, is it worth building a rifle or buying a Fierce with a .5 MOA guarantee or even a Seekins PH2? For my build, I was considering the below:

I would assume this build would be somewhere around $3,800 and a Fierce Carbon Rival runs about $2,700 and a Twisted Rival runs about $2,300. Both come in the 6lb range, no idea what the custom would end up at.

Action: A Defiance or Kelby
Stock: Manners EH1
Barrel: Can't decide on carbon or not - Carbon is lighter, but a fluted/cerakoted Bartlein looks pretty sweet
Trigger: TriggerTech something
Brake: Terminator
if you are doing a custom then do it your self bighorn action proof carbonfiber shoulder fit or nut system barrel you pick cal, trggertec trigger you pick stock you pick and with a barrel vice, toque wrench and head space gauges you can put it together in under 40 mins when all the parts get there and you can all so but other Proof barrels in different cal when you want to and switch barrels in under 30 mins

Or you could go with the guys @ APR Rifles…They have the maverick or altitude rifles in your price range…I've had them build me 2 different rifles. One is a Ranger in 6.5 PRC and the other is a Altitude in 6 creed…Both will shot .5 moa. They also keep built rifles in stock on the website..Might find what your looking for there without the long wait for your build.
