300 Weatherby info

I recently acquired a Weatherby Vanguard in .300 WBY. It is going to be used as a back up rifle to my 7 RM. Anyways, never loaded for WBY before. Just seeing if I need to watch anything inparticular and maybe some favorite 180-200g loads. Am leaning towards the 200g AB.

I've run a few loads through it with 180g SST's with some IMR-7828 and was getting 2-3" groups at 100 yards. Had a few 180g NBT's laying around and some RL-22 as well so I tried a couple loads. 81g of RL-22 shot .7" 3 shot group at 100 yards. Figured that was decent enough considering my rest, it was windy, and the trigger and stock absolutely suck on that vanguard. Did I mention it kicks the snot out of ya every time you squeeze the trigger!! Haven't cronoed the RL-22 loads, but the 7828 were shooting between 3150-3250fps. Need to crono the RL-22/180g NBT load as it shoots decent enough for back up work. Hoping its around 3200fps.

My 300 ULW likes 180 gr TSX's over 81.5-83 gr of H4831. Runs @ 3250 fps with 83 gr.
I seat my bullets out so the will just fit the magazine reliably.

Thanks for the info guys. Will definately be trying some 200g AB's under both RL-22 and 7828 since thats what I have on hand. Might be trying some 180g NBT's under 7828 as well just to see what the NBT"s do with 7828. The SST's and 7828 was not a good combo. I"m thinking if it dont shoot the NBT's and 7828 decent, my rifle probly dont like 7828... I'd almost rather it shoot RL-22 better anyway as thats my go to powder in my 7 RM. Always have that on hand. Would be nice to have a good 200g AB load going 3000fps. Would make great elk medicine! Dont know exactly when I"ll get around to it. I would like to get a Bell and Carlson stock and a Timney trigger before I start getting to serious about it.

Anybody know of a decent stock to put on a vanguard?? I was leaning towards the Bell and Carlson tan w/black webbing. I think its like $170 or so. Would this just drop in, or would it require some minor fitting? Not a whole lot for the vanguard...

The B&C would just drop in provided the barrel is still factory contour. As for other options look at manner. They make awesome stocks and will inlet for anything.

Load up some of those 200's full house and hang on! That's why they have brakes. Cheaper than 3 visits to the Chiropractor for a neck adjustment!

may want to try 208 hornady amax.bc is .645 ish compared to the .588 of the accubond.i shoot the amax.

Most belted cartriges like little or no headspace .So when sizeing the brass
size only enough to chamber the round.

This will normally improve accurace.

If you have a neck sizer use it for a couple of loads then just touch the case
with the full length sizer .

Once you fire a belted case there is no headspace unless you size the
entire case.

If the rifle has less than .001 headspace (using a headspace gauge) then
you can full length size every time.
