Reloading calipers?

I have been using one I bought on Amazon for other purposes:

My biggest gripe is what I would describe as measurement "jitter". e.g., when using with headspace gauges, I might read 2.132" with thumb pressure applied to the unit but when I release that pressure I might read 2.134". If I apply pressure while tightening the locking screw, no issues but that slows me down.

The zeroing seems to work fine ... I generally find it to be on target or off by 0.0005" when I occasionally recheck the zero.

Which is just to say that the precision of the measurement should not be the only concern but also the quality of the mechanical operation of the device.

A caution - a while back on a similar thread, there were numerous reports about counterfeit Mitutoyo calipers being sold at authentic through Amazon and other sources. I don't know if anything's been done about this but given the cost, it's worth making sure we are actually getting a genuine Mitutoyo.

Good advice.
I order mine through MSC Industrial Supply

I am not sure what you are considering cheap ones (Frankford Arsenal, Hornady, RCBS, ~$25-30 for the digital, etc.), but if you can afford the Mitutoyo go for it.
This is what I use. Father in law gave it to me, is it any good ? I honestly have no clue lol I used to have a Frankford Aresenal the last time I was into reloading.

I have a dial indicator Starrett that I bought in 1985 (for $25...and I had the option to buy 2–wish I had). Still works like new. As others have said, "buy once, cry once." You won't regret getting quality.

Useful for many more uses than reloading. Harbor Freight has a decent digital caliper. Midway, Dillon, and Franklyn sell them for decent prices. I own three of them and no, you can't have one
