Major copper fouling?

You guys are giving me great ideas for rifle cleaning. Halfway through my first Margarita, I decided to combine two things that I really love.

Try shooting some handloads using the IMR Enduron powders like the 7977. They are supposed to reduce copper fouling. I was out today trying out some Barnes TTSX bullets. My last group was with IMR7977. Went to clean. 90% of the powder fouling came out with 4 tight patches and 70% isopropyl [rubbing] alcohol. Cleaning with Accelerator/Wipeout got the rest. There was maybe just the slightest hint of copper.

Do you do a wet mop with iso-alcohol on a loose patch and let it soak a couple minutes or just 4 wet tight patches?

No, just wet a patch and push it through. I understand they used to recommend the same thing with Ronsonol in the past.

I'm bummed out that I'm almost out of this stuff. It's got a copper removing additive in it and when you push the foam out (after letting it sit for 30-40 minutes) it's a pretty blue color. I use it alternately with Hoppes and it works great. I got some Sweets too but that stuff pretty strong.

Exactly. No smell and does a great job without the scrubbing

A lot of shooters rave about Foul Out foam. I used there "Accelerator" and Foul Out foam until the patches came out clean. Then, just for the heck of it, I ran a few wet patches with Bore Tech Eliminator and let it sit for awhile. When following up with another wet patch I was surprised to find more blue on the patch.
I use plated jags and nylon brushes so the blue wasn't coming from my cleaning routine.

Just my observation.

In regard to use of foam cleaners... I guess I look at as there being a difference between cleaning and stripping for long term storage. If your rounds go to the right places why scrub?

True - but you don't scrub with BTE either. And since it does not harm barrel steel you can just wet the bore up and leave it for any period of time. Basically, it can be used the same as any of the foam cleaners but it's more effective IME.

I read somewhere that they put lead wire in the bags with the powder. Don't know if this is true or not, or how that impedes the copper fouling in the bore. Somebody on this forum may have been on a Navy gunnery crew who knows.

They use an E-1 that has failed to please his superiors and a tub of elbow grease. E-2s and E-3s work too. By the time they reach E-4 they've usually learned what keeps the PO happy.
