I see that factory loaded 300 WSM are supposedly pushing 180 grain bullets at 2950 fps up to 3050 fps. Anyone confirm this with a decent chronograph?

I find these velocities hard to believe with these bullets stuffed down almost to the primer to make them fit in any magazine.

GG, I don't know if you want to here from me, however, I thought you might want this info. I have a friend that shoots a 300 WSM and he is using Federal factory ammo with the 180grn Fusion tip.

His rifle is a Weatherby Accumark with a 24" barrel. The highest velocity we ever got on the chrony was 2910fps. Federal advertises a max velocity of 2950 with the 180grn Fusion bullet, so we were getting 40fps slower. The temp was around 50 degrees.

The chronographs used was the PACT Professional XP.

Anyhow, I hope this helps.

GG, Winchester Supreme 180 went 2980 over the 35P in 70 degree weather out of a savage with a 26 inch barrel. I had a hard time equaling that with hand loads a sane pressures. I have an order in for 8 lbs of H hybred V and hope this powder works well with this cal and hopefully the 6.5-284. I was using H 4350 and accubonds in the 300 WSM and the accuracy load was st 2900.

Thanks Budman.
Can I ask you if you were loading the ammo to fit inside a magazine and how much H4350 were you using?
I tried putting 64 grains of IMR4350 behind a 180 grain Accubond and then seated it to fit the magazine and it was such a compressed load that the seater stem actually "bit" into the bullet. It was way over 110% load density.

I have since been tinkering with IMR4007ssc and it has been giving great deviations and good accuracy but I'm only managing 2800 fps with the 180 grain bullet and it is about 100% load density. I would like to get them going a bit faster. Right now, it's a glorified 30-06!

my long range shooting partner loaded up some very accurate loads for his savage 300wsm using 58.9grns of 4007 ssc and 180grn nosler BT. now i don't have the greatest chronograph but it gave us very consistent readings right around 2925. these we shot at 10,000 ft with a temp of about 50'
we also found a big difference using different primers. in the end he is now using standard large rifle primers not magnum primers. I'm not sure on the oal but i remember making it as loooooooong as we could get to fit in the magazine.
hope this helps ;)

200gr AB data

No data on 180gr, but 200gr Accubond from 26" Savage runs at 2850fps over my CED M2 chrono. H4350, Norma brass, CCI primer Cart overall length 2.975"

GG,

My brother's 24" barreled 300 WSM average 2915 over Oehler 33 with Winchester Supreme 180 CT's. About 40-50 degrees. Not quite what was advertised on the box.

My theory is that the factory has to take into account folks shooting in 110 F weather, etc. and so maybe at those temps, you'd see 3000fps?

A glorified 06 is just what I call the round. Here's the data, 64 grains H 4350, WLR primer seated to 2.86. Average was 2931 with a sd of 11 and es of 23. This was the best I could get but it did shoot 1/2 MOA for a sraight factory stick with different shooters which is how I like to determine if my loads are good enough. Dave

Three of us running either 210 JLK or Bergers at 2975-3050 with MRP and F210s out of 30" barrels measured over Oehler 35 with 4 ft spacing which is accurate to less than .5% according to Oehler. Plus winning matches too.

Most in 1k BR game are running the 210s at 2850 and up to 2950 in the WSM.

I have had no trouble reaching over 3000 fps with a 180 in a 300 wsm. I am not shooting factory ammo or a stock rifle. 26" 10 twist Lilja, blue printed remington sa. I did allot of testing with the 180 ballistic tips and 178 a max. I settled on a healthy charge of IMR4831, norma brass, federal gmm mag primers and the 178 a max. Average velocity is 3140 fps and accuracy is well under .5 moa.

Im not sure what the factory mag length is or what the OAL of the cartridge is when loaded to fit the factory mag,but if the 180s are being seated pretty deep chances are its not going to reach its potential velocity. As BH stated I have no problems reaching 3000 with 180s and a little above 2800 with 210s,and thats with a 300saum,but again its not loaded to magazine dimensions and the chamber isnt factory.

Thanks everyone for your answers. For those of you who are getting near 3000 fps with a 180, are you fitting the magazine? And if so, how compressed is the load with around 66 grains of stick powders? I have now tried winchester and Norma brass and I can't get 66 grains of ANY stick powder in the case without the powder impeeding the bullet seating.

Federal 180 Accubond factory loads were measured with Chrony F1:
From a 26" barreled HS rifle, 3090 fps ave for 6 shots
From a Kimber, they averaged 3057 for 9 shots.
Temps when shot were about 60*

My 180gr handloads are 2950fps with 180 Accubonds and 180 Sciroccos.
