Hi, Im just starting out with strictly long range hunting. I have a rifle, I just dont have a scope. I seen on an auction site a Leupold BR 36. When I asked what year it was made the seller thinks it was in the early 90's. Is this a scope that is worth my time and money? I really apriciate all the help and also this site. I have enjoyed it alot, and have learned alot as well. Thanks so much.

I have one of those scopes and I think it would be totally worthless on a long range rifle. The reason is that sometimes there would be too much mirage on 36x and you cannot back down the power on this scope. Many times, even as close as 500 yards, the power must be reduced to see a good, clear picture and reduce paralax. I often shoot on 15 power and 20 power for 1000 yards and further and find it to work best. My 36x Leupold is strictly for short range competition out to 300 yards max and even then there are days when I wish it was 24x.

I hadnt thought of that. So you are suggesting a variable? How about a nikon 6 to 18 or something close to that? I dont have the money to go get a nightforce or swaro. Thanks again for all the help.
