I'm having trouble trying to decide what scope to put on my 300 weaver. I intend on using this rifle for hunting but I would also like to try my hand long range target shooting out to about 1000 yds. Any suggestions on a scope that would suitable and practical for both? I have an old redfield 4-16 but I'm gonna put it on my 264wm and buy a new one for the 300. I would like to stay at 800 or less. Thanks.

Just go and get a IOR.
You will never regret. (German Glass, tracks perfect, and handle 50BMG guns without problems. MP8-Reticle, Dioptry adjustment from -4 to +4) Plus the scope is comming with sunshade and heavyduty rings and target knobs and protecting knobs covers. Nightforce do not have knobs covers,
I just got 1 for myself and I do not regret.

NF doesn't have turret covers because their turrets are already sealed. No covers are needed on the scope -or desired in the field.

Whats wrong with you?

NF NXS, What else could you ask for? Took a long time for me to break down cough up the money and buy one but, I was told I said I was told I SAID I WAS TOLD...Id never regret it...Guess what I DONT!

Get one I bought one and I want a couple more!!!!!!!!!

He's trying to stay under $800.00. An Nxs is about $1300.00. that's almost double his budget. Plus not everybody needs a scope you can drive over.

Sorry Guys,
I do not have nothing against NF scopes. NF are top scopes, but I was just explained to you what was my reasons to turn from NF.
I know 3 hunting friend who lost their POI because of target knobs without covers.
They bang the rifle on cases when quading and because of the shocks the elevation turrets got pusshed down.
They needed to rezeroing their rifles.
1st scope it was Diavari 6-24x72 MILDOT
2nd scope - Leupold Mark IV 6-20x50MD
3rd one Sightron - 6-20x50MD

All three scopes without knobs covers and the same problems when driving quads and the rifles are in plastic cases.

This was the only reason why I turn form NF and switch to IOR.

Mine ride 4 wheeler cases all the time never lost a zero and it aint so hard to right down where the knobs go if turned....now that i see $800 range.....IOR

I've never heard of that scope until now. I'll look into those. They sound pricey but I may be able to afford one down the road. Thanks!

J300UM, don't overlook the Bushnell Elite 4200 6x - 24x Tactical. I got it and Burris XTR 30mm rings for $609 shipped, and have ocasionally seen the scope cheaper since. I've been using Elites since they were Bausch and Lomb and I have had only positive experiences with the 4000 series. Lots of scope for the money. Range of adjustment is a little weak, but I can squeeze 1200 yards out of mine on my 338/ 300 Ultra when it is mounted on a 20 moa rail.
