6.5 SAUM - Was it a wise choice for Western hunting?

Here is some pics of my girlfriend and her doe she shot with the 260 Rem at 62 yards. See how the 140 grain Berger bullets don't expand at close range. LoL!!!

I have a 300 RSAUM that's new in the box. Never been. Fired. I won it in a $5 raffle. I wanted to neck it down to a 6.5. I spoke with Remington about it but they told me they never made the rifle in a SS all camo stock. I gave them the serial number and they said the numbers are correct. They told me hang on to it cause its 1 of 1.
