Am I the only one that feels it would great to have a .270 bullet with a high BC? With it sitting smack dab between the 6.5's and 7mm's, it should definitely be possible.

Also, the sheer number of .270 rifles in circulation would make the high BC match bullet a decent seller. I keep on thinking about building a rifle on the 6.5-06, however, if I could get a decent bullet, I have all the .270 junk I need to shoot forever.

What do you think?

bullets you want a .270 bullet?

Get up with Richard Graves at WILDCATBULLETS.COM hes got your bullets 169.5 VLD RBBT's.....guess at around .750 bc

Berger bullets is suppose to be coming out w/a .277 vld bullet very soon.

I called there and a lady hollared over to Eric at berger and he hollared back -september-ish ?
Maybe they are being boxed up as we speak .

I to have a 270 win and am looking forward to shooting some of the vld's..

I called berger again today and spoke with Andrea in customer service- the word is -they are running a little late with the .277 caliber bullets. She said they should be ready late next month [oct.].

She offered this info. -there will be three different bullets -a 130gr =good bc but not a vld style bullet.

Two VLD bullets 140 and 150gr -the 150gr will top .6 bc .

These will make a 270wsm a hot tomale .

I had posted a while back about going to 6.5-06 or 6.5 gibbs because I have a 270 and the selection of .277 bullets sucked. Maybe I should rethink this because I already have all the reloading stuff for the 270 but the match bullets.

We're on the same wave-length SES50 ,i commented on your 6.5-06/6.5 gibbs post and i too have a 270 in a rem 700.

I just haven't been able to get fired up about the gun -but maybe the bergers will change that .

Ol Mike,

I have read over your post acouple times because I am still investigating the barrel contours. I have actually been doing a bunch of stiffness calculation and may post back on that thread in a week or so when I come up with some conclusions. I was thinking about this last night and have to rebarrel the rifle no matter what. If I am doing that I might as well go with something as hot as possible. Since it is hunting season I have not had as much time as I normally would have in the evenings, but I want to sit down with exbal and look at what the energy of the 6.5 gibbs compared to the 270 win further out will be. The 6.5 gibbs may have more even though the bullet is a little lighter becuase of the vast increase in muzzle velocity. I just have not had time to sit on the computer and do that work.

Ol Mike,

What kinds of velocities can be achieved with a 150 in the 270 WSM?

A 0.6 bc would be a bit of improvement over what's available currently.

I can get the 150 nosler BT to well over 3400 with no problems in my rifle but its not a WSM.

Hello Roy ,

I have a 270 win -i was only commenting on the 270wsm because i thought the heavy 150gr vld's would work out well with it.

You got one of them'thar firebreathers -grin- !!

Yes -or 90% of the bullet makers wouldn't produce them.

If a remington-savage-winchester won't belt them out they would be a specialty bullet.

I have a friend who swears by the hornady 150gr sst -he says they take the 270 to the next level of recoil to.

Do you think the 1:10 twist is fast enough for the 150's?

The factory 270 Win has been shooting 150s since the beginning of time. However, if the new offerings are longer that may be an issue. But I would think that Berger would have taken that into account.

Good intentions have gone south before.

Ol Mike: You got one of them'thar firebreathers -grin- !! She moves brush out of both sides for as much as 20 feet. Sweet!!! Now that fire season is over I can go prone again.:D:D
