6.5 Grendel Decision

The ruger already comes with a 22" semi-heavy 5/8x24 threaded barrel and uses AR mags. That's 2 things I find more appealing about the RAP version over the Howa. Personal opinion.

i like the rugers, i was thinking of getting one in .223 just for plinking, but i built an SPR styled AR instead. when looking for guns i usually determine what accessories are available, how easy they are too get and what they will cost. i have boxes full of AR mags, so that would be a major plus for me. plus, the vids i've watched, they seem to be pretty accurate, especially for the price.

The 6.5 Grendel uses 6.5 Grendel specific mags, even in the AR platform.

Mud you sir are correct. Both have good and bad. For most the Ruger is prob the better option. For me I'm looking for a super light rig for my father to carry while walking and will be used for under 300 yards more like 80-100 most of the time. So I am cutting it up to lose some more weight. I do wish it used ar mags for sure as I'm swimming in those. If you are going to the range to make small groups no doubt the rpr will be better for that.
Not the RPR (Ruger Precision Rifle), I'm talking about the RAP (Ruger American Predator). The RPR would be much heavier. It would be cool to see an RPR in 6.5 Grendel, though. The RAP rifle only weighs 6.6 lbs.

My brother has the ruger American in 6.5 Grendel. It's awesome, but the stock leaves a lot to be desired. We bought a pretty aftermarket Boyd's for it but it's inletted for a "full sized" short action round. AKA it's too big of an opening for the stock Grendel BM. He's ordering CDI BM, and we will mess with the mag to get them to feed.

I think Magpul is making a stock for them now. Might want to give them a call.

I have a AR in 6.5 so would be nice to do double duty with the mags. Know of any good polymer mags for the Grendel. I have a few steel because they are both new. I'm not a huge fan of steel mags for my hunting stuff.

I have the Ruger and it shoots lights out. Loves a steady diet of 120 or 123 Hornady. Shoots bug holes.

I'm most excited to try 100gr pills in mine I think the added speed will be hard to beat. I'm gonna run the 99gr hammers. But also think they make a eld 100gr. Although I have not looked into other Bullets much after have such good luck with hammers. Hoping to find a load that does double duty in both rifles.

My AR in Grendel actually feeds with the Magpul 5.56 magazines with no issues. Try it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

No, I have been waiting for Magpul to make some for years... But so far, nothing. I would have figured they would have jumped on the train by now to be the first.

Mine you can only get about 7 of the 6.5 Grendel rounds in a 30 round 5.56 mag (with the 5.56 follower) before they start jamming up inside the magazine body, and the magazine won't fit the rifle.

Im looking at the following uppers...

Aero
Ranier
Alexander Arms

Anything else?
