back when I played with 120's, the best we could do in a 7stw was around 3,600 fps. Even that was a bit hard on the brass; 7828 and rl22 are good but they are not that good.
The only time I've seen 4,000 fps with 120's in a 7mm was working with aa8700 in a 7rum.. The data only predicted 3650 fps but my barrel was in the 3950-4,000 fps range. I wouldn't doubt that the pressures were a bit high too but there was no brass distress. Shot like crap too and eventually the rifle went to rifle heaven as it had a loose chamber.

Butterbean, I am really glad to hear that about our friend. He got this thing going and we need to be grateful and keep this thing going. If he's got 4 deer, sounds like his shootin is awesome. Hope he used a 7stw for 1. Poor deer, sure it didn't know what hit him/her! The freezer has been filled, thank you very much.

Has anyone been loading the 190 Matrix VLDs for their STWs? My first STW and a couple boxes of the 190s are currently in the mail, but I have not seen any loads posted in my searches. Has anyone tried these with success?

Big thanks to ButterBean who's been helping me get back on track. Been a long time since I left the range feeling like I accomplished something. I couldn't see the dot past my crosshairs so it might actually be shooting better than it printed.

I ran your load numbers in Quick Load and here is what I got figuring a 26" barrel; 3325fps, 65,655psi & 1.190 m/s barrel time. While the psi is showing near max the barrel time hits very near a node (dan Long on barrel timing) for a 26" barrel of 1.191 m/s. I am curious is your muzzle velocity near the 3325fps QL predicted? Also, is the 140gr TSX a std. TSX or is it a TTSX, it's not that I'm questioning you, it's just I want to be sure.
I need to come up with a California legal load and I think I may work up and try your load in my rifle.

This load mirrors 7STW's load exactly. I shot charge weights in round robin for 3 cycles. The other groups were not very good. I'm hoping it wasn't a fluke due to the round robin method. BB saw my targets, it's like they were from a different rifle, my normal one. LOL
I am going to try a little tweak to the oal to see if I can tighten it up just a tad. I'd really all 3 inside that 1" dot.

I would like to share something that happened to me concerning load development with the 7STW a few of years ago. The rifle is a Ruger #1B stainless steel, bullet was 160gr Accubond and powder was Vihtavuori 570.
I used Quick Load for guidance which indicated 86.0gr's to be about max, showing 3260fps and 66,432psi. Based on that information I started at 83.0gr's and worked up to 86.0gr's of powder using .6gr increments shooting six targets in a round robin at 250 meters. It turned out 86.0grs gave the best results with a muzzle velocity of 3300fps. I knew this was on the edge but the cases looked good and extraction was easy so I continued on with my next step.
My next step was to use different primers which were; GM215M, CCI250, Rem 9-1/2M and WLRM. All targets were again at 250 meters shooting in round robin. All groups were similar at 2-1/2" - 3" except the target with WLRM primer which grouped 1-3/4". Goodness gracious I think I'm on to something. Cases still look good and I'm a happy camper.When I get home I discover I only have a few WLRM primers left. So I order some and when they arrived I loaded up five to see if they shoot the same.
I went out the range with my newly loaded rounds only to discover that I forgot my chronograph. So I decided to shoot for group only. First shot felt little stiff... humm popped the case and no primer OHTOH - shot another..OK, shot one more; stiff, a
little smoke and no primer. TIME TO STOP!!!
The next time I went to the range I had my chronograph and decided to chance shooting to two remaining rounds. First shot was 3400fps, second shot was 3450fps. Both popped their primers and both were stiff.
Needless to say I started over starting at 81.0gr's and stopped at 83.0gr's of powder. I ended up with a load of 81.5gr's of powder with a muzzle velocity of around 3150fps. I had good groupings with 83.0gr's but decided not to push things and to keep a good margin of safety.
I had never considered that a different lot of primers could have such an impact nor had anyone I talked to about this incidence. Anyway thats my experience.

I found IMR 7828 with federal 215 primers do well with 140 gr accubond as well as the 160 accubond
