This is very slow for the 7mm caliber. Although it fits into the old way of thinking, that you can get a little more velocity out of a slower twist barrel compared to a faster twist barrel. The Lazeroni rifles are designed to be among the fastest chamberings available. None of our Hammer Bullets in 7mm are designed for this slow of a twist, so we had to design a new bullet for this rifle. We set out to design as heavy a bullet we could for the slow twist rifle. The original design of the rifle is to get maximum point blank range for hunting big game. Our new design came out at 130g with a 1.5mm hollow point. We took this new bullet out to test it and it did not open up at 1800fps. (our minimum impact velocity) We then went back and redesigned the meplat and ogive to accommodate a 2mm hollow point. After this the bullet came in at 128.4g, still good for the 11" twist and stabilization for big game hunting. Took the new design back out for testing and it worked perfectly at 1800fps and 3200fps. The 1800fps bullet retained 76.5g and the 3200fps bullet retained 69g. Both with perfect square front deformation. In the Lazeroni it should run at about 3600 to 3700fps. Will make a great big game rifle out to about 600yards, with nearly 500 yard point blank range. We just got in a new copper shipment today that we made a slight alloy change to. We will be testing it tomorrow. We are very happy with the performance of our current alloy, but always looking to see if we can get some improvement. Here are some pics of the test results.
We received a rifle from a customer for custom load development. The rifle that he sent to us is a Lazeroni 7.21 Tomahawk. It is a beautiful light weight hunting rifle. The only problem is that it is barreled with an 11" twist barrel. This is very slow for the 7mm caliber. Although it fits into the old way of thinking, that you can get a little more velocity out of a slower twist barrel compared to a faster twist barrel.
