IMHO, a 28 ga. auto (1100) with good recoil pad would make a far better first shotgun for a youth. YMMV

He's using it for 4H skeet shoots. He's been using youth 870. Just looking for something designed better for skeet shooting.
Taught quite a few kids in that program over the years and some adults. Some take recoil well, some don't. If he is ok with the 870, long as the O/U fits well - sounds like he'll be good. Always preferred to teach girls - they listen better and have no preconceived notions.
