Youth Hunting - Part 1 - The Smiles & the Memories

She is with me every trip or mad that she can't go. I couldn't have been any luckier with my outdoor buddy.

My son was bitten by the long range bug at age 9. We watched this old doe several days in a row. She used the same trail every morning at 412 yards from the stand. So after a few practicing sessions with the little Hawkeye 308, and a minor Introduction into MOA and dialing, we decided it was time to make an attempt.
With a steady rest, he sent the 110 grain ttsx down range at 3300 FPS. (Yes, I had already ran the data and knew that we would be marginal at best on energy at that distance). He hit the ten ring and she made 20 steps before falling dead. State biologists aged her at 12 years old.

Outstanding work. I love it when a plan comes together. Great preparation & execution!

On this day, the little Hawkeye was used by my nephew to harvest his first deer. Me, My son, BIL and nephew were cramped in a stand made for 2! Nephew made a perfect shot at 225 yards!
At this point, the little Hawkeye 308 is starting to get a reputation

Most of us probably like hunting and fishing. I've got to tell y'all, spearfishing is the best of both worlds. My son says if we could only have one outdoor activity, spearfishing would be it. I have to say I agree. This will pertain mostly my warmer climate shooting brethren.
