Your favorite Quarter Bore and why

I would say my 25-20, but that is probably not what you want. So haveto say my 250-3000 in a Savage 99. Only quarter bores I have. The latter works well enough for me for medium game, although not at 500 meters.

Ooooh a 99 in 250 savage is indisputably a classy and classic choice. Dang it it need one of those too now…not a priority at the moment but at some point in my life I would like to add some more 99s to my collection, the .250-300 and .300 savage, and if I ever see one of the quite rare .358 winchester models for a decent price that'd be a keeper for sure, would complement my new-to-me .358 norma magnum nicely.

Depending on what 6.5s the op already has , it might give him a good option too neck down too a 25 cal of choice . Example 6.5-284 too 25-284 , all you have too do is change bushings if you are using bushing dies.

257 wby! I'm in the same boat as @Mike from Texas, I'm running the 90 grain hammers at 4k. When I rebarrel it will be a 7 twist to run the heavies. Before hammers it was the 100 ttsx, elk deer and antelope . The only animal I had run was a heart shot whitetail doe and she went 20 yards. My best friend and I both have them figured I'd share some photos of the memories with the 257's. The neat thing was our rifles shot the exact same load only difference his was 10 fps slower than mine.

I'm considering a build on a custom action with lightweight components and am thinking of what caliber to choose. I have a .243, a few 6.5's, .270, 7mm, and 308. I do not have any .25's, and I think this is a good time to round out my collection. I hunt PA whitetail deer and have been known to walk a few miles scouting in season. I also rarely get shots beyond 300 yards. I'm thinking the 257 Roberts would be a great choice for me.

I would love to hear from all you quarter bore aficionados as to your favorite 25 caliber cartridge and why. Feel free to throw in a hunting story along the way. Looking forward to the campfire chat.

I love my 25x284 26 in Krieger bbl ruger action. 3150 fps with 131gr BlackJack Aces or 133gr Berger VLD's. Good for anything from Antelope to Moose.

10 fps doesn't mean anything. That's so cool, that never happens!!! Congrats on your successes hunting and working up such a high performance load.

I have had 257 Roberts and 25/06, great shooters for sure. The 257 Weatherby is the King of the 25 calibers I have killed some big critters with mine, it now has a 7.5 twist barrel and have got the heavies dialed in with it. The pics are almost everything I have taken with it with bullets from 87 Gr to 115's and none went more than 2 steps, the big elk took 2 to kill but he didn't take a step after the 1st shot. The longest was the Mulie at about 475 yards, the Elk was just over 375 yards, all I have shot with new barrel and the heavy 131 Gr is hogs and out to 700 yds its bang flop. The 257 Weatherby is the cleanest killing machine that I have.

The 257 Bob is an excellent cartridge. Finding factory ammo is difficult. The 257 Bob is an excellent cartridge. Finding factory ammo is difficult. Several years ago I hunted PA white tail with a guy who had one and to say I was impressed with its results is an understatement. Right now, I'm in the market to get one but they're not overly plentiful and the asking prices are generally high but I'm determined and will get one.

The 257 roberts is a fine cartridge , I built a custom years ago 1st year with it I took 13 head of game turkeys , deer hogs goats etc 100 gr Barnes . I have now moved on too the 25-06 and 25-284 , what I like about the 25-284 , is you simply neck down from 6.5-284 , with Lapua brass you can load into the 257 Weatherby territory not matching it but I think 3874 fps with the 90 gr hammer is pretty close . A good choice of a 25 cal with modern brass would be the 25-284 , 25-06 ai , 25 creed , 25 prc , or the 257 Weatherby . Other than Weatherby the brass you can use would be Lapua , Norma , Nosler and adg my preference would be Lapua .

I have had a 257 Roberts in a model 70 featherweight for almost 40 years and it is still my favorite .25 rifle. I've had a 257 Weatherby, 25-06 and still have a jap Arisaka in 25 Souper but for medium distance mule deer or antelope all I need is a 257 Roberts.

Agreed—I still have a couple of 257 Wby mags…1 Accumark, and a McMillian Talon..the talon is absolutely a 1 hole gun. Shot many a critter with it.always loved it for exotics and whitetail and antelope

My favorite Quarter bore is the Savage 110 I built for my wife, that she has never used to hunt with. I did it in 25 STW, with a 28" Shelien Sendero contour and a Witt Machine brake. It is a laser with the 90gr Absolutes @ 4330fps and will put um in a ragged hole at 100, in a Boyds thumbhole bedded stock.
