The gold ring was painted black.

The scope was not painted just the ring, All Leupold have a lifetime warranty.

Wow...so the Mark 4, Mark AR, Mark 2, and the older "tactical" models don't have a warranty? That sucks!

This one is covered by the Leupold Lifetime warranty!!

They are covered. I have several of the Vari X iii Tactical series with the black ring and all have been back for cleaning and inspection. All have been returned, cleaned, inspected, and any repairs if needed, free of charge
