Rare but it happens. Great job Matt defending the family. You are probably in more danger from other humans but human or animal the lesson to be learned; always keep a bat, or axe and a big knife handy, as in right beside each adults sleeping bag. If you can't have a gun, like in national parks, something other than your bare hands helps a lot.
