Will the Corona Virus impact your hunting plans next fall?

Curious more than anything. I have a tentative NM Elk hunt planned and possibly a Maine Moose hunt as well and I'm considering not doing either because of the Corona Virus

Where are you at with it and is it impacting your hunting plans at all?

Actually to me it is a form of self quarantine and I hate it. Just think about being all alone in the woods with no television or phones, and being forced to enjoy yourself. Sounds pretty bad doesn't it !!!

I guess I will just have to bare up. 👍 ;)

Plus 10 on that. Problem is, other than local Whitetail hunts, everything else involves travel across the country and at this juncture (at least), I'm not all that keen on doing that because it puts me in contact with other humans which may, or may not be contageous. You don't know. You have to stop for fuel and at least one, possible two motels and all that increases the risk of contracting it, whereas, staying local and hunting local don't The woods is the woods and myself, I like the serenity and always have.

It's the 'getting there' that is the issue and I'm sure as heck not flying. You won't get me within 20 feet of any commercial aircraft right now. You have no idea who sat in the seat before you or if everything was sanitized or not. Sure, you can wipe down the seat and armrests (if you can get any wipes which is doubtful) but the cabin air is recirculated countless time, nit something I want to breathe.

For me, any form of public transportation is not acceptable, especially contained transportation like commercial aircraft or a subway train, not that there are any out here because there aren't.

Guess I'll be using the 460 this fall if I hunt locally. It's a nice handgun, in fact, my favorite handgun.

I hear you !
I am lucky, my deer lease is 5 hours away and the gas station is self serve so I don't have to make contact with anyone.

As soon as it stops raining, I am going to do some testing on my 460 S&W rifle with the 300's and the 325's so I can test it out on hogs.

Got the XVR dialed in at 100 yards (Burris 2-6 old school LOE glass) pistol scope in Talley Rings. It's shooting a nice cloverleaf, good enough for my uses. I need to load up some Swift's yet. Still sending the Hornady 452 HP's in Starline brass. I would appreciate a PM as to what you are loading for the 460 stick, maybe I can use that for a base load for the Swift's. I have been jumping the 452's a bit, cannot help it...lol I have that 'jump instinct built in. Has to be the Walt Berger / Brian Litz syndrome....

The 460 is a blast to shoot and now that the Mothership rebarreled it and went through the action, it's even better.

Very little here as far as the Chinese flu goes but everyone is in a tizzy anyway. No TP to be found anywhere but spring is close so there will be leaves...lol Think we have enough to get to then....

Freezer is full of meat from last year. Took a nice Mulie in Nebraska late fall and a couple nice deer here plus I still have elk in there. Not gonna starve but wiping the butt could become an issue.. Mulie is getting mounted right now. Did another full cape. Did a left sneak to compliment the Montana mulie I took 3 years ago, He's in a right sneak so they can look toward each other on the wall...

Well, it may affect my hunting this year now-- wife works at a restaurant/bar here in CO, Polis said they all must close for 30+ days-- they do not do take out or delivery so they ate shut down completely-- my work is now thinking of closing too as 2 of the regional managers are awaiting test results and quarantined at home-- no possible way to work from home so if they do then I'm out of work too... family of 4 with no Income- my savings will be hurt quite a bit if that happens.

I suspect we will have a lot more to worry about than going hunting in the fall shortly. Hunting will be way down on the priority list very soon I suspect. The infection rate is really ramping up and if Italy is a good benchmark, we are heading down the same road with the same end result. I really sincerely hope not. I do believe in the coming days, not weeks you will see the virus become a national emergency and the government place mandatory restrictions on travel and even everyday stuff.

Survival I suspect will take precedent over everything else. Very bad deal.

Remember, it's only the flu and it will "miraculously be gone by April." It's sad and frustrating to see this slow motion train wreck take place and how it could have very serious consequences for thousands of Americans in situations like cohunt. The County is closing the doors to the public but we have one Clerk holding out pretending everything is just fine, "back office business as usual....a great way to catch up on backlogs". Anything is better than not collecting a check though. I feel for ya man.

Though I don't post a lit in here as of late, I've been a member of this community for a long time. Having said that.

I pray that we all get through these trying times and we all emerge on the 'other side' intact and with our health and families together.

It his country we have faced adversity and the unknown before but the American people have always triumphed in the past and I hold out hope that we will yet again.

While I'm not overly religious I still pray to the almighty Lord every night before I retire that I'll live to see another day and that my fellow men will as well.

I've faced death not so long ago so I'm not afraid to die but I surely want to live as long as the Lord allows me to.

Only he decides, not you or I. I suggest you say a silent prayer for all those who are and will be impacted by this disease and we will triumph with the Lord's help. I feel confident in that.

Everyone is looking at Italy. We should be looking at South Korea. They have been effectively managing the crisis. They are testing a boat load of people and isolating them if infected. They have not had to lock down the country. Apparently we aren't set up to test on such a massive scale.

Despite my previous comment about being hopeful, I do feel this is only the tip of the iceberg. The next 2 weeks will really tell what the impact will be. I also pray we don't wind up like Italy or Iran. I certainly don't want to loose my loved ones nor to I want to succumb either, but again, it's not my choice. All I can do is mitigate it as best I can and I am doing just that, practicing social distancing, washing my hands often, not touching my face, mouth or eyes and if I have to cough, covering my mouth with a Kleenex or even my sleeve if no Kleenex is available.

The wife and I have always been loners. SOP for us so social distancing for us is second nature anyway. besides, living where we do, in rural America, there aren't very many people to 'distance' ourselves from anyway. If 2 cars go by on the road in one day. that is a lot of traffic.

Everyone be safe and practice good health habits and above all, keep your distance from strangers and wash your hands often. You have no idea who is infected and who isn't so it's prudent to treat all strangers like they are. You can always apologize later. I'm sure they will understand.

I feel like I have a lot more faith in our health care system then I would in Italy (socialist system) and Iran (dictatorship controlled). There is no way America compares to Italy or Iran.

If Italy's medical system is anything like their military they were screwed well before this virus hit.

Also, you sound like you found paradise and a good lady to share it with! Good luck and great advice and thread!!

I travel through 4 states and 950 miles to where I hunt. I can drive straight though if I have to and pack grub with me, Hunting area is 20 miles from nearest Highway and the nearest person is 6 miles. It,s the safest place I can be. Life's to short to think about what might happen to you. H--l yes I am going hunting next fall. That's what life is all about doing the things you want!!!!!!

Well my brother and I had a great antelope hunt last year. He made a stupendous 865 yard one shot kill on a buck. Dropped like a rock.

This year may be different. He works at a paper mill and they are making product come hell or high water because the country needs it. Mill is running 24x7 with maint. schedules suspended for a while. They are checking their temps at the work gate each day and have them eat in shifts and trying to get some social distancing.

Seems his youngest son may well be infected. Has all the symptoms. Went to his doctor and they cannot/willnot test him. Say has to wait until he is bad enough to go to the hospital. His fever has broken though. He is weak and has a bad cough that doesn't to seem to want to stop. Been ill for 5 days now. He works as an appliance technician making house calls. Told his boss about it. Boss will not let him come back to work until he has cleared a coronavirus test. They will not test him unless they have to admit him. He is young. He will make it.

Just have to see where it all leads and make decisions then. Take care and hunker down. It is real.
