Why i like my 260 rem so much now that there is no ammo over the 6.5 cm

ok we get it, LRH doesnt like the CM. i've owned a 6.5CM in an LR308 platform for about 5 years now. prior to the pandemic or other media induced panic, i could get 6.5CM at any big box store near me for $15-$40 a box with several load choices. only cabelas carries 260 and it was $35+ a box with only one choice. i dont have the time or the space to reload some fancy cartridge. i plan to once we move to a bigger house and i dont have 3 tiny humans running around breaking everything and eating anything they find on the floor.

I was generalizing in terms of the hate that they get. The 1997 Escort is a perfectly serviceable car (and the same year the 6.5-308 wildcat was legitimized), but they're old and not new, which is the argument Creedmoor fans make against the 260 Rem.

260 Rem fans say the new fangled gizmo is new and annoying, so they grumble about the new fangled-ality of the thing, and say their old stuff is better.

Meanwhile in common sense land, the ballistics between the 6.5 Creed and 260 Rem are almost identical. If anyone cares about the 1gr of water capacity the Creed gives to the 260 then there's the 6.5x47, 6.5PRC, 6.5-284, 6.5x55 that are all faster than either of them. Barrel twist is a useless argument because you can chamber either in whatever twist you want.

Comparing chamberings on the availability of factory ammo in a reloading forum doesn't make a lot of sense. We are not the people who only have 2-6 boxes of factory ammo on the shelf.

We're all aware this is the reloading sub-forum, right?

I love my 260 and have been seriously considering AI'ing it. Sturner's post just enhances that consideration. It would join my other AI's; the 260 Savage, the 25:06, and the 243. As you can see, I really like the Ackley's. And after the 260, there will be the 7:08. Just sayin'
I have really liked the ackley improved version of cases as well. I have a 280 AI, 243 AI and a 257 AI. In my opinion it makes a good cartridge great. I have also considered a 7mm-08 AI. Might be what I build my kids as their first hunting rifles.

6.5 creed on left 260 middle 260Ai on right

I'm an old man haha. But I can recognize when so something is done right the first time. Remington just necked down a 308. Guys were already doing that. Hornady designed a new round from ground zero. Shorter case longer neck. 30 deg shoulder. Long bullets dont go past the neck. Hell they even used a commercial powder and printed the data on the box. It's been a home run for Hornady. All the haters are usually 260 or Swede shooters lol.

Lol

my local stores have 6.5cm they've not had 260 in years

bullets same
Primers same
Powders same

in 2 min I found in stock creed brass by:
Starline
Hornady
Federal
Peterson
Lapua
Alpha

am I in a 2012 time machine?!
Local stores order stock based on demand. Creedmoor is definitely more in demand.

Buying ammunition if you shoot much does not make sense to me... but I have been reloading ammunition since the early 1970's. I have boxes of brass. bullets, powder and primers for my 223, two 6xc rifles; 6.5x284, 270 WSM; 30-06; and my two 338 Winchester Magnums. Long story how I came to have all of them... I shoot the 6xc's the most, when the snow is gone... and in Northern Utah that appears to be awhile yet. I also have several 22lr's and lots of ammunition.

I see .260 everywhere I go and zip for the 6.5 CM and same for my 7-08 I am really wanting to buy a gun based on ammo at this time, sucks to say that! I have considered a .260 just or this reason!
Popularity issue at that point. No doubt the 6.5CM is more popular. Ask any young (non-reloader) hunter if they have ever heard of the .260 Rem. Chances are they haven't. The 6.5 CM is on every hunting/shooting show on TV.
