Why does 300RUM burn out barrels faster...

I have been reading lots of threads on here, and all are in agreement that the 300RUM will burn out a barrel faster than a 338RUM. What I haven't been able to learn is why this is so? Can someone clear it up for me?

Same amount of powder going through a smaller hole. Kinda like putting different nozzles on the end of your hose, the tighter the nozzle, the more wear and tear on that part or in this case the throat.
