I know this is a broad question but I am looking for advice. I am going to make a scope change on a 6.5-300 Weatherby and 338-378 Weatherby. Currently, I have Z5 5-25 on them with ballistic turret and want the ability to dial more elevation and windage. I am starting to shoot longer range and the cartridges have the ability to shoot extended distance. I was planning on moving to a Swaro X5 but given some new options out there am debating. At the moment, I am trying to decide between Swar X5, Leupold vx6hd, Leupold Mark 5HD and Zeiss Conquest V6. These rifles will see the field for hunting(Western States) as well as plenty of range use. I prefer to have a scope start around 3x but am fine with a 5x start magnification. Unfortunately, the gun/hunting shops around me don't readily stop these scopes. I have locked through a X5 but none of the others. The Mark 5 is interesting to me given FFP reticle. I will be using Sig2400 ABS as part of the platform. As stated earlier, this is a broad topic but would apprecaite any help.

I doubt you can go wrong with any of those options
I have a mark 4 I've used for years and has worked flawlessly and I've never once felt the glass was not good enough.
I would seriously consider the mark 5 because of that

I replaced a Nightforce NXS with an X5. It's a much better scope in low light, and I haven't found anything I don't like about it. My favorite scope ever by far.

I do have a Mark 4 on my 308 and it is a great scope which got me to considering the Mark 5. I visited with Andy this afternoon on these 3 scope and a couple of others. I think I might give the Zeiss V6 a shot. Lower turrets and a lighter scope vs X5. If I don't like the V6, I will go to the X5.

The Zeiss Conquest will have lower glass quality than the Swaro, for sure. I have shot behind several of each.

The Swaro X5 are good glass.

Have you considered the March F1?

I agree the HD5 wasn't as good as Swaro. I haven't had a chance to look through V6 yet but thought glass spec was good with being flouride and Schott glass. I don't have any experience with March. I have seen them mentioned on the site but don't know anything past what i have read about them.

The Nightforce ATACR i am pretty sure has 120min. of elevation travel. I glass is real good at distance and low light as well. Best of luck with your choice.....Then there is this instead of a new scope www.tacomhq.com go to products and look at Charlie TARAC.....

I haven't looked at an ATACR in person to judge it. I have a SHV and am not impressed with the glass. My eye prefers my older Mark 4 glass over the SHV. I did like the SHV reticle. Nightforce also tend to be heavier than I like for a rifle going into the field. I actually took the SHV off for that reason and is waiting for a POF 308 to go onto. The X5 isn't as heavy but definitely at the top end of the weight spectrum for me. I think that TARAC unit is awesome but not in the realm right now. It is something I will watch in the future and hope to own. I have a desire for a 375 Cheytac and the TARAC seems like it would be a good fit for that. Of course need and want/afford come into play there.

As an update on the scope choice, I have an update.

I ordered a Zeiss Conquest V6 3-18x50 and Swarovski X5 3.5-18x50 since I was on the fence with both of them. They arrived on Tuesday night and I took them out right away to start comparing. Each afternoon and evening, I would spend time looking through them. On Saturday morning, I went to the range and was there 45 minutes before sunrise. I hung up Champion targets that were a black bear, whitetail deer and standard target that was off white with green and orange. These were hung at 300 yards. Shortly after hanging them up, I started comparing the scopes and could clearly see the black and white lane markers. At this time, when looking through into the trees you could make out branches and trunks clearly at different ranges. About 15 minutes before sunrise the sign that said 200 yards line was able to be read. The sign was 150 yards away and size of a small street sign and was black and white. The targets down range were visible at lower and starting to make out definite shapes and colors. At sunrise of 7 am, the targets were easily visible and when looking into trees the depth, shape and colors were really clear even when 400+ yards away. As luck would have it about 30 minutes after sunrise, I was able to spot some deer with my spotting scope. I picked up the scopes and thought the V6 was a little better. About 45 minutes after sunrise, another range member took a look through them and had the following feed back. His first reaction to the V6 was the Zeiss brings a lot of bright light. He thought the X5 had a little better resolution and this was based on looking into a hole where lots or rounds have struck and it seemed like there was a little more depth. He thought the clicks on both were pretty goodturret were extremely solid as well.

At the end of this all, I took the following into account. X5 seemed to have a little more resolution but was minimal. I did like the more audible sound of the turret clicks on the X5. For the V6, the image quality was excellent along with smaller turrets, shorter length and lighter weight. One other item was the V6 reticle(ZMOA) would lighten with changes in light which made it easier to use vs the X5 which was always black. I thought the X5 was a little brighter but the other individual thought the V6 was brighter. Even when I was looking through both of them, there were instances I thought each one was better than the other.

I wasn't able to put them on guns due to the return policy but Andy did a good review on the V6 as well. At the end of the day, I kept the V6 and the X5 was returned. They are both excellent scopes and I would have been happy with them both. Given that I could pick up a V6 close to $1000 cheaper due to a sale, it sealed the deal. I am going to be mounting the V6 later this week and getting it to the range to get it zeroed.

I really like the looks of that new Zeiss V6 5-30x50 ZBR non-illuminated... I would love to have one, but that's way outside of my price range at $1,899.99
