Hi all, as stated, I'm looking for a load for my Win model 88 lever action .308. I am sold on the 208 AMAX and r17 for the 308, but will it work for only having 2.82" to work with due to the detachable magazine? What kind of powder charge would I have with the bullet seated so deep?

Here are a couple pictures with the 208 on one side and a 175g SMK on the other, both at 2.82.

To achieve a decent velocity, there must be a balance in bullet weight and charge weight if the COAL is constant. What is that bullet/powder combo? Anyone go through this?

you would be better off useing the 175gn bullet.it takes a lot of R17 to get the speed you would want to get.most who are shooting R17 in a 308 are loading from 47-50gn's of it and getting 2500-2700 fps depending on the twist and barrel length.

but a mild to max load of Varget should do you just fine.even 4064,R15,or one of the 4895's.thats with the 175gn bullet.

I've shot a lot of 308 to 1000yds and I am sold on the 155Scenar. Run some of those 155's and you'll soon learn to hate the 175SMK. I run them with R-15 in Lap brass and fed210's. Seat them to mag length and run them. 2900+ is easily arrange with that bullet in the several 308's I've ran them in.

Scenarshooter here on the boards has a TON of experience with the 155 on game and I don't think that you can even begin to question their effectiveness. My exp with them is all on steel. They are hands down my favorite bullet in the 308.
