7 Sherman Max powder ideas?

Need some advice. My 7 Sherman Max is done. 100+ rounds fired and ADG brass fire formed twice. It’s built on a Tikka action, 22inch 1in8 twist HCA barrel, etc. It’s about 8- 8.5 lbs scoped. Trying the 145gr Badlands BDG2 bullets. Seated .020 off the lands, 3.055 COAL and I tried N550 powder and...

After talking with Rich and a few others on this site, I decided on the Sherman 7 Max. Placed an order for brass and dies late last week, and they already showed up. Working with Axis Works for the build, looking forward to getting the build done and working through load development. Thanks to all for your help.

I've been going down the same road for bit now. At the end of the day, I'm looking for a 500-600 yard elk capable rifle, with a 22" barrel, and set up around 9lbs, so I don't need another 3K+ custom rifle to do it. I'm either going to buy a mesa, or tikka and cut the barrel down to 22" and thread it. I have 7rm brass and dies, so that's what I'm doing. I do think some of the other cartridges may best it by a little bit, but not enough to matter to me for the hassle. A 162 @ 2850 is really all I need, I think it will do a bit better than that. 7 saum would be my first choice for sure, but would end up costing me a lot more money for a rifle that won't best what I'm doing by anything other than being a short action....which would be nice but not worth it to me.
If I was building a custom, I'd go with a 7 saum for sure.

Nice, I'm in the same boat as you. Looking for a smaller rifle for elk and deer. I'm in the process of putting together a 7saum. I have short action, dies, barrels been ordered. I just can't find any brass. Norma or adg.

Thanks to everyone for your input. Just following up on this old post with the final result. I decided on the Sherman 7 Max and had it built by Eric Goss at Axis Works. The barrel ended up a bit longer, influenced partly by the availability of components and partly by my desire to get as much performance out of this rig as possible. I was originally thinking Manners EH1, but the XLR element 4.0 chassis got my stock down to less than 2 pounds, all while including a folding buttstock, adjustable cheek piece, dbm, and built in arca Swiss rail. The folding buttstock on the chassis influenced me to go with a longer barrel, as it should offset the difference in barrel length while carrying. I'm not 100% sold on the chassis concept yet, but I'm getting there…….The last photo is early load development with the Berger 195 EOL, 2925 fps, grouping 0.295 at 100 yards with less than 50 rounds on the barrel.Also working on load development with the Hammer Hunter, currently pushing the 131 Hammer over 3500 FPS and the 120 Hammer over 3600 FPS with room for more….

Which 7mm magnum cartridge would you select for a custom build, barrel length of 22", threaded and suppressed. The shorter barrel is to bring better balance to the overall package while hiking and hunting. Primary purpose will be long range
deer(500-1,000), possibly antelope. I've been reading a ton, looking at 7mm-300wsm, 7mm wsm, 7mm saum, 7 Sherman Short and also considering 7mm Rem mag. Really not interested in the barrel burners (28 Nosler or 7 RUM). Many of the short wildcats posted here seem to be setup on long actions to feed the larger projectiles, if that's necessary why not just go 7mm Rem mag and have far more options in brass and dies? In a short barrel setup, which of these will provide the highest velocity? Are there others I should be considering?

7mm Sherman Short, hands down for a short action. 190 LRHT or 195 EOL at 2.9500 coal. I prefer the 175 Elite Hunter at 2740 FPS. Harvested antelope at 1129, 978 and 165 with solid bullet performance. I compete in NRL hunter and RTC with 20" 6.5 Sherman Short suppressed and the 153.5 Berger and hunt with the 156 EOL. A 22" 7mm Sherman Short suppressed would be a fantastic gun with the 175-190. I shot a Hunter match in Idaho with a 24" suppressed barrel and 190 LRHT at 2670 FPS. Let go of the myth 1000 yard bullets NEED to fly 3000 FPS from the muzzle and you will love the short barrel performance on targets and game.

Also, 22" barrel 7ss with a 180 is capable of over 2900' if you want to.
