I have a Rem 700 SA mag bolt and a 20” proof carbon barrel. Prefer to hunt with no brake or suppressor. Looking to make a compact mountain rifle for Alaska sheep and goats mainly, occasionally a caribou or deer out to 500 yds.
What using it for?
I have thought about that and looked into it a bit. COAL seemed to be the only advantage with other negatives- feeding, magazine, and poor brass options…I always wanted to have a run at the 6.5WSSM. Sure brass is a problem, but I love the 25 and think the 6.5 would be a gem with a 2.8 mag.
YUP and the 6.5 SLR is, even better with, it's 30* Shoulder and it's NICE, long,.. Neck !Boring ol' 260 Rem...kills everything on your list with no drama or issues (brass issues, clearance issues)
I reload, no need for factory ammoIn a 6.5 SAUM with a 23" barrel I was getting
2950 FPS with a 156 Berger
3248 with a 124 Hammer
Your 20" tube should be very capable. Without having to go with custom dies for the PRC, the SAUM would be the route again. Unless you want to be able to walk into Cabela's and buy ammo.
Really not so boring, but surely was poorly named by the marketing duds at Remington. I have been hunting and shooting with mine for over 20 years in North America and Africa. Three loads cover everything from prairie dogs to moose. But lately, I have been thinking about a fourth loading mostly for pigs.Boring ol' 260 Rem...kills everything on your list with no drama or issues (brass issues, clearance issues)
