Nowler can shoot with us anytime! Only difference is we use Winchester standard rifle primers, Overall Length is 2.830" regardless of rifle. Also use a lot of Winchester aka Black Hills Ammol brass.

41.4 gr of H-335 under a Nosler 168 gr J4 over fed 210 primers inside winchester brass. .025 shorter than the mag for good feeding and full length sized mostly cuz I don't own neck sizing dies.

For target shooting - 190gr SMK's pushed by 41gr of Varget, 0.003" off the lands

For hunting - 180gr Accubonds with 43gr of Varget - COAL 2.873" (0.003 off the lands with this round)

Also successful - 178gr Amax with 44 gr of Varget, 0.010" off the lands

I had great luck with 168gr SMK's and 48 gr of H380 in cold weather. This powder sucks in the AZ desert in hot weather.

All of these are in fire-formed, neck-sized Lapua brass, and are lit with Fed 210M primers, and all yield 0.5 MOA or smaller at 10 yards with my Savage 10FP. The 168s are overstabilized and show a BC drop past about 450 yards.

For the 1in12 .308 Win. I am now shooting, I use 48.0grs of I-4320 under a 155gr Lapua Scenar and 210s in a Lapua case. Other .308s have used N135.

right now im using the 165gnbt with 43.5grs. of rl-15 and 210m. seated to 2.845 to fit the box of my AICS[lapua brass]-the nbt shoots better for me than 175smk even with the jump to the lands-my-2-dave

155gr moly Amax, Varget, Fed 210M or CCI BR2, Fed GM or Win case. muzzle vel 2850fps. Furthest distance shot - 1450yds.

Min of small bush accurate at that range.

    Ian,

I have a remington 700. My max length to fit into the mag well is 2.821. What rifle do you use that will allow 2.830?
By the way, I found this website about a year ago as a result of an article you wrote that referenced this site. Thanks!

Favorite .308 load is 42 gr. of IMR 4064, 168 SMKs, lapua brass, federal 210m primer. For my 20" bbl, this load tracks the federal gold medal in 168 gr extremely close out to about 600 yds.

What is interesting is that I tried the IMR4064load that worked for Sandman and had dismal performance from my Savage at all the COALs I tried. It's nice to know that that load was a logical choice to try, but I am always amused when a load that is great for one gun doesn't work in another. It always leaves me scratching my head and trying to figure out how to predict what will work in a certain rifle without burning out a barrel and going through a thousand bucks worth of components to find the sweet load. I have a friend who also shoots three-position matches. He found a load that was better than him and stopped there and loaded 2K rounds of it. I have loads that are better than his (off a rest at least), and I still feel that I have to try a new recipe every now and again, just in case they might be a little better.

For all around use, IMR4064 and a Sierra MK loaded .005" off the lands. 155s, 168s, & 175s. This has worked for me in a variety or rifles from 100-1,000 yards.

Chessman, for your Savage try a 165gr Nosler Ballistic Tip & Varget. I worked one up for a buddy recently & it was a .5MOA load that'd work great for deer.

Successfully copied the 168 Lapua factory load with 165BT, 45gr V N140, Fed 210M, 56.7mm OAL-to-ogive (using Stoney Point Comparator).
(In the pic, 100m target,my load on the left, Lapua factory on the right)

Just got back from a successful week's hind culling in Scotland with this load (West of Invermoriston if you read this Derek!); will post more details when my stalking partner sends me a CD of the pics.
