I bought my son a Remington model7 Predator in 22-250 a couple years ago. Now he's 7 and shooting it we decided it was time to toss the xmark trigger in the trash and install a TriggerTech. While removing the action screws I noticed the rear tang screw is substantially smaller than normal like 1/8" in diameter. What was the purpose for this as my old model 7 had matching diameter screws.

Probably to discourage you from replacing the XMark trigger easily. The reason for changing the good old trigger with the XMark was because Bubba did not know how to properly adjust it and if not done right it would go off when closing the bolt or bumping the rifle hard. Remington got sued big time over the old trigger.
