What power scope to choose?

Cant decide on what power scope to put on top of my 7mm STW?

what power scope are yall using to engage targets 100-1000yrds?

mainly my hunting shots will 100-400 and target shooting up to 1000yrds

I use a 5.5-22x56 and am very happy with it. I have not shot higher magnification...

mine wears a 4x12 leupold and its worked just fine but then im not shooting past 600 yards with it.

I use 6-24x50 but this question is like the 9mm vs 45acp debate. You don't NEED 15rnds and I don't NEED 230 grain slugs. It is all preference and a matter of prioritizing the inevitable compromise.

I have Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP EBR-1 MOA Reticle Scopes on my two Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mm STWs and I am absolutely pleased with the magnification power range and I would highly endorse them.

Kinda put the 1000 yards deal on the back burner! 100-400 yard shots can be covered by "most" of the quality brand scopes out today. Nikon; Leupold; Weaver; Zeiss ( I left out NF because of the $$$ )

1000 yard shots ( other than lobbing; plinking) are best handled with REAL equipment and here is where the Night Force; Zeiss; high end Leupold..etc...etc scopes come in. The best handloads and practices are required.

Generally, I like 2.5-8x from 0-400 yards, 3.5-10x 100 100-700 yards, my partners 4.5-14x has an edge in the 600-800 range. I'm looking in the 5-25x range to begin exploring the 800 out targets. Obviously there is overlap, and local conditions will influence choices. We have probably clung to lower powers as we have a lot of heavy cover.

Currently on mine, I have a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50. Love it. Only things I'd change would be a 56mm objective and a 30mm tube, but other than that, that scope gets a 10/10 rating from me. It performs like a champ. Sooner or later I'll probably swap it over to a NF 8-32x56, then put the Zeiss on top of my A-Bolt 7 Mag for closer range whitetails.

My recommendation depends somewhat on your budget. Unless you can afford a good quality, 5:1 or 6:1 zoom ratio scope, I would recommend limiting the magnification to 16X on the high side. Field of view and contrast, which are important for hunting, will be better. 16X is ample for 1,000 target shooting.
