I am wanting to try the 110 ELDX in my 257Wby to improve long range capabilities. My question is what powder would guys here suggest I use. On hand I have RL22,Retumbo,RL25,IMR and H 4831,IMR 7828,RL19 and IMR and H 4350. My thought was that retumbo should give the high velocity I amlooking for but according to my speer manual it does not. The Nosler manual says IMR 7828 will give best velocity followed close by RL 22. With the 100gr Barnes TSX RL 22 shoots fast and great accuracy. My goal here is to get 3500 or more fps with the 110 ELDX. My current load shoots the 100 TSX at 3602. Any help here will be great.

Really like h1000 in the 257 bee. A little easier on the throat and very consistent.

I was hoping Retumbo would work in the 257Wby like it does in the 25-06. The velocity in my 25-06 was over 3300fps and that was not even a max load. Retumbo should work even better in the way over bore 257.

Wild, Glad you are on the Retumbo in 25-06 wagon, but like 76, H1000 is tops in several .257 Wbys I've loaded for. However, we all shoot the 115gr Bergers. We have a forum member who has built a lot of .257 Wbys who uses the 115 Bergers as well. Remember what works for one doesn't mean it will work for you. Just physics. Good luck

I read in the Nosler manual that 7828 gives top velocity so I have some loaded to try out. With the 100grn TSX RL22 was accuraye and gave me 3600fps. I may try it as well I really don't want to burn my barrel out looking for a load though. The reason I am trying the ELDX is their great bc of .465.

7828, H1000, and 7977 will all give good results.

I do have some 7977 I can try. Will a difference of .15 make a big difference in trajectory. Given the 110 at .465 should hit 3500. The 120 might reach 3400 with bc of .480. Maybe my problem here is I am not a big enough Speer bullet fan.

For me it was $50 a box as opposed too $25. I’ve never had too look for a deer shot with a 257 wby and I’ve shot a couple giant bodied deer with it

I’ve liked h-1000 in mine rl33 has been know to gain a decent amount of velocity over h1000 in the .257 I just never went back to try it after my h1000 load work.
