I have been shooting 250 gr Nosler Partitions out of my 338-378s.I am afraid of using the 300 gr smks on moose, grizzley bears and bufffalo if I ever get a permit.I trust the Nosler 250 gr up close on bears but I would not trust the 300 gr smks on a bear at 10 yards.I have tried Kodiak 275 gr and the old speer 275 gr.I do like the Kodiak but they are hard to find.I want to try the 300 gr serria smks on caribou at long range.I figure about 600 yards is my max for the 250 gr nosler for moose.I think about 400 yards on grizzley with the 250 gr is about the furthest I would shoot.I want to try these 275 gr Kodiaks they might be better than the nosler 250 gr I will just have to see.The 416 Rem mag with the barnes x bullets is interesting with the 300 gr x bullet at 2950fps.I loved the 325 gr at 2800 fps but they dont make them any more.

dgr416, The 200 338 Accubond seems to be doing very well. For Grizzly, etc. I would lean to the Barrnes TSX in 210 or 225. Proven results on big bears. Most Grizz guides would probably die at the range you're talking about shooting. Good luck.

Hey DGR416,

Get rid of that remmy 416 and step on up to the Wby 416 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've got a 28" barrel on mine and can get 3050fps out of the Barnes 350gr tsx /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif I'm just picking on you about the remmy, it's a great round. Don't see to many other fellow .416 shooters out there!

I have 3 416 rem mags ,8000 pcs of brass ,4000 bullets .I bought 1400 loaded 416 weatherby shells from Graf& son for $27.80 a box a few years back.I deloaded them because I used the brass in my 338-378 weatherby.I use the 410 gr woodleigh bulleys in my 416 rem mag.I used the Norma MPR powder in my 338 win mag and 264 win mag.I love to recycle.I had a 416 weatherby in my hands one day it was $850 I could kick my butt for not getting it.I shoot speer 350 gr mag tips alot because they are cheap and awesome.I want some more Barnes 325 .416 x bullets they are awesome.I have 100 left and need about 500.I got awesome groups with my 50 I loaded. If you look at the energy its about the same as the 338-378 weatherby.I had a friend who is an assistant guide who shot a 9'6" bear with a 416 three times with 400 gr x bullets. It had been shot before that with a 358 norma mag 3 times with 250 gr bullets .I dont know what kind of bullets he used.I had a friend this year shoot a 7'2" griz 6 times with a 338 win mag with 250 gr bullets. It was 50 yards away.I chickened out on a griz last year about 300 yards with my 338 win mag .It takes alot to put them down. They will bite when they get up.These 416 woodleigh bullets mushroom to .92 and shoot good and they are my bear load till i find better.I have not tried .416 Nosler partitions .They look awesome.

With all that brass and 3 rifles it sounds like you need to keep the 416 remmy around for a while! Have you tried the 350grn Swift A frames? I have shot several critters with those, a moose being the largest. Performance is awsome! They do just as advertised.......the front opens up big and fast and the back stays intact and powers on through. Never shot a griz (yet, that is getting the top of my list to do) but when I do the A frame will probably be my bullet of choice. For long range it has a much lower bc than the barnes, but I can still get 3050fps out of it. I didn't mean to hijack your .338 thread with .416 talk but I couldn't resist.

What is your load? I have a 416 WBY also!

I have a 416 Rem that uses 81grs of RL15 behind a 400 gr bullet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Pop,

My load is 121grn of RL22, with either the 350grn swift A frame or the 350grn TSX. This load is pretty hot so the standard word of caution applies........I also have some loaded with 112grn of IMR4831 but have not shot them through the chrono yet, probably not as fast.

I have a 28" Shilen pipe on mine. I picked up around 50-60fps with the new barrel over the factory 26" pipe.

YIKES!!!/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif That was my favorite bullet in my CZ550!!! Mine pushed 2900fps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

dgr416 What kind of F.P.S. do you get with your 338-378 shooting the 250 gr Noslers. The most I can get with my 338 RUM is 3058 fps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
