What is the best hunting bullet 140 grain or heavier you used in your 6.5 caliber rifle

I used ballistic tips in 7 mag a couple times. Very explosive . I have some but never tried on game of their newer huntng ones that have thicker jacket. They were always very accurate but I think there are better bullets out there for killing and not wasting s bunch of meat. I won't list .

They work fine if you don't mind blowing up a lot of meat. I would only shoot a deer through the ribs and let them turn everything into jello soup!

Being an old archer, my first shot placement is double lung. I know a lot of riflemen do the shoulder shot to anchor the animal, but I like taking out the lungs and giving up a 50-75 yard run on adrenaline.

if I ever hunt elk with a rifle, I'll load up Accubonds or Partitions.

I have killed a good number of white tail deer with 140 Sierra Game Kings and Hornady interlocks running them 2800 fps from my 6.5x55. Most shots have been inside 300 yards but can't remember of having to shoot a deer more than once. In my 264 Win mag which has a 9" twist barrel I run 130 Accubonds at 3350 fps and they are AWESOME from point blank out to a touch over 500 yards so far. I am sure that the 140 Accubond would be just as good. One other bullet you might give a try is the Speer 140 Gold Dot. I have shot only one deer with the 120 Speer Gold Dot out of my 6.5 Grendel but it did awesomely. It is also a very accurate bullet

I have used the 140 VLD and 143 ELD-X on whitetail, coues deer and coyote with success. Shot from a Creedmoor or PRC. I will be trying the 156 EOL this season.

I am putting a 264wm together and picked up bullets today. I was after 130 and 140ab,s but cost was twice that of 143eld x,s so that's what I got. Speers were sold out. Sierra,s were alittle more. I think the eld x,s are listed as 3200 max fps. Hope they hold up to a 27in barrel

I've been shooting 140gr Sierra Gamekings in my 260 Rem for a few years now and have had great success. Running them at 2725fps. Only shot whitetail with shots as short as 30-40yds out to around 250yds. Haven't lost one yet and get 1/2 moa accuracy.

I am really impressed with the 140 gold dot in my long throat 26" barrel .264 win mag. 4 one shot kills between 260 and 450 yds. this year. I recovered one bullet fully expanded to over .700" at the widest, 121 gr retained. MV 3200 FPS, 3.460" COAL

I am very interested in the Gold Dot 140gr performance. Was 1:9 or 1:8 twist and what fps at the muzzle? It would be great to see it sectioned to determine bullet construction for game use. My .264 WM has 1:9 and being 1.270" should stabilize.

I use two 264 caliber rifles the 260 rem with 22 inch barrel and a 24 inch 264 win mag .I was wondering which bullets you liked best for long range that were 140 grain and higher .I have used the lapua 155 grain mega tip in both of these but its bc is only. 377 .I want to try the 156 grain berger and a few more .I just have to have a bullet that will not blow up when used up close .
140 grain Speer Gold Dot. It doesn't have the highest BC, but terminal performance is exemplary

1 in 8 twist. 26" barrel chambered for 3.460" COAL 3200 FPS with a LOT of Ramshot LRT. Huge expansion .643" and 124 grains retained weight through shoulder @ 263 yards. All the rest have exited.

I have a "few" 6.5mms. From 6.5SLR, building a .260AI now, and 3 6.5SSs, with another 6.5SS being built now too.

For the smaller case capacity cartridges, I actually like 130s. My 6.5SLR and a ton of 6.5CMs I have loaded for shoot the 124 HH, 127 LRX, 130 OTM, 130 VLD, and 130 TMKs. Taken many game animals from 60 to 637, and never had one go more than 30 yards after the hit, and 90% have dropped on the spot. My .260AI will have a 130 load for hunting too.

For the larger case capacity cartridges, a 140+ is the ticket if you have the twist to spin them. 140 Elite, 140 Hyb, 144 LR Hyb, 150 SMK, and 156 Elite. My 6.5SSs run 131 HH @ 3191, 140 Hyb @ 3153, 144 LR Hyb @ 3035 (20"), 150 SMK @ 3113, and 156 Elites @ 2900 (20") or 3015. Never had one "blow up". But animals just drop when hit with one of these.

I have tried so many bullets in 6.5mm it is crazy. Not all for hunting.

I've used a .260, 6.5 CM, 6.5x284 and 6.5 PRC. I've shot 130 OTM, 140 VLD, 143 ELD-X and 144 Hybrid. Don't have the twist for the 156 Elites. All of them have killed animals from 20 yards to 650 yards. No animals have gone more than 30 yards. My go to right now is the 144 Hybrid in my 6.5 PRC. Shot 2 bucks last year and both dropped in their tracks. If you put them in the right place all of them will work. Open the tips on the Berger's and they work fantastic.
