What is everyone favorite caliber for deer?

Like others it kinda depends. My well used 308 Win my nephew uses most of the time. My 300 Win used to be my go to general purpose gun but it's been supplanted by my 260 Rem. Mostly because of the long barrel (32"). A little unwieldy in close quarters. .44 Rem mag (revolver) for the deep woods stalk in where you might be lucky to get a 25 yd shot. The 300 Win still see's service if I'm setting BIG fields but the 260 Remington is fast taking that over due to the light kick..(I'm 65 so...go figger)...lol. My 243 win (new ruger American soda straw barrel) seems like it could become something to utilize if I'm huntin a pasture or something. Bought it for Coyotes mostly though.

I can't say just Deer since I live in a forest full of game and critters...

"""If""" I only had thick skin's to hunt I'd go to the 30/06 to 300 something...

The medium size game might leed me to the 243 to 30/06 ish,,, if it was predators only I'd most likely switch down to 22 xxx on up to 6.5 xxx

So being that X amount of my hunting is there and Y amount is here along with Q & K I'd find the middle ground between all 3 game categories,,, of course I get to pick and choose what works best for me,,, that's part of the fun of you know...

Yuppers,,, find what works and get at it,,, if one of the cartridges suits your fancy better,,, you'll never look back until the next greatest and best comes along...

Who knows what course of action will be later on down the road,,, maybe a old school something will catch your eye,,, or you'll hang out with what's working for you...

A life time of...

The longer you enjoy it the more you will stick with it...

Cheers from the North

I was and always will be a 270 win fan. However the last few years I bought into the 6.5 Creed hype and have used one on several hogs, deer, mule deer, antelope and elk. I have to say it works as long as you do your job.

Thinking of building another 270 win though as it is my favorite.
Started with a Marlin XR-7 in 7mm-08, then went to a R700 VTR in 308 Win, to Savage 6.5 Creedmoor, to 96/38 Mauser 6.5x55mm Swede scout rifle, to a Savage 338 Lapua last year (long story as to why that happened), and this year I'm hunting with a custom 280 Ackley Improved. I honestly can't say I have a favorite, they all make deer dead and that's all I need although the Lapua was a bit much though.

For shooting 6.5 cr, 308.
Walking the dog 45-70

I've used 30-06 most of my life, but switched to 338 Lapua the last four years. Yes, it is quite big for deer, but I have had great luck with it.

I'm a 30-06 guy and it has pretty much taken down everything for me from deer, Elk , hogs and coyotes but the consensus has shifted to the 6.5creed and it has proven it self a formidable caliber I wish they had a poll to the topic it would be quite interesting.
